Seriously, this is literally the interaction around which the entire series turns. Maybe they're not destined to be a romantic pairing, but the interaction between them is the thing that drives all of Eva, both the series and the Rebuild movies.

Its not that conflicting - everyone hates most aspects of 3.0.
Only Kaworufags came out of it only somewhat satisfied, since Kaworu still blew up at the end.

That would be more in character, but since Rebuild has completely gone off the rails with the writing and characterization I want to see evil Shinji. That probably wont happen seeing the story boards.

This is probably part of Anno's plan to get the audience to like Asuka more than the rest of the female characters, she will have an opportunity to cheer up Shinji for once when he's feeling like shit. Which was Misato's role in NGE.
