So, I just finished watching the series and including the movie. Is this just about a death cult made up of scientists who receive funding from the government and shadowy investors? Does the main character want to fuck his mom, kill his dad and also want to bang that alien dude? Am I getting this right?

don't forget the part where you slip on you're own bullshit and tumble down a flight of stairs
faggot
>Does the main character want to fuck his mom
no just the surrogate
Has anyone ever discussed how the three heroines resemble the three magi?
no its about hedgehogs and old mecha tropes
Good description m'dude
Perhaps, but I’ve never heard that until now. Good observation
With the heavy use of religious iconography through Eva, it wouldn't surprise me
It also features a penguin
What were the 3 magi again?
Lover, woman and mother?
Or mother, woman, scientist?
Poo
Pee
Fart
mom, lover, scientist
Melchior, Balthazar, Caspar
bump
yeah 3 parts of Ritsukos mother's mind
where does this shit come from. i never buy this. it's like people justifying shit writing in the star wars prequels because something was in the novelization.
from the NGE2 ps2 game. There is shit that was added because Anno directed that ps2 game.
its not wrong
does hell exist in eva
>Does the main character want to fuck his mom, kill his dad
Why did it take me this long to realize Shinji was an Oedipus-type
well, I dont think so unless you count earth being hell it self. Jedeo Christain stories dont have hell I think, its more of how you build life on earth is it heaven or hell. I say this because when people died before 3rd impact their souls also got into the instramentality.
so all I can say is that there is the belief when someone dies their souls return to earth until the armageddon or some shit.
Are we talking about the magi in the show or the Biblical magi? If it helps, the gifts of the Biblical magi (gold, frankincense, and myrrh) are traditionally understood to represent kingship, godship, and death. I dunno how Asuka, Rei, and Misato would correlate to those.
Eva is just a bunch of anime tropes sewn together. How did this become considered "the best anime ever made"?
because those anime tropes started getting popular thanks to this show.
Because you don't know your history. To understand the impact of Eva you have to know how the industry was progressing at the time, what the trends were before and what the trends became after. You don't appreciate it because you didn't experience the history. It is like watching Star Wars now. You think it is a dated, shitty sci fi show with a tsundere princess, a fish out of water kid with a laser sword, and Harrison Ford, but at the time, it changed a lot of what people thought they knew about filmmaking, especially science fiction.
name 4
It was about how people are lonely sometimes so we should cause an apocalyptic scenario where everybody merges
thats a much better answer than mine.
>rewatch an angel fight on youtube cause it's been a while
>literally 1 (one) thing goes wrong and shinji starts crying like a bitch and cowering in fear
you watched the one where he covered the enemy in smoke didnt you?
and that's why asuka is the best character
>I just finished watching the series and including the movie
Netflix translation, I presume. What are your thoughts on "sect" being translated as "leftist"?

Evangelion was a massive prank, you're not supposed to take it seriously.
Those who claim to be fan like it ironically.
I love how people always say this, and yet they never manage to bring up actual examples.
Oh. Now it all makes sense now.
In other words, it's something Anno came up with after the show was over and you shouuldn't take any bit of this info into account when interpretating Evangelion.
Good thing Madoka dethroned it.
>Is this just about a death cult made up of scientists who receive funding from the government and shadowy investors?
Yeah, exactly like veganism
It's also about spiting on christians faces and trying to be edgy
I disagree , I think it makes perfect sense and is much less frustrating than not knowing what the fuck I was watching (apart from a few tiny hints here and there) .
Gundam did the whole depression and killing almost all major characters thing before EVA did.
EVA is nothing special.
no the opposite. just keep in mind that its entertainment and a rather shallow depictions of human connections and admit you like plot. That doesnt mean it isnt good piece of anime because they did put a lot of fine work into it.
not denying gundam but we are talking about using christian imagery as a way to show the end of the world. Leaves a surrealistic feel to it, especially how the end looks. There was also the plot that makes people go "wtf did i just watch" all the time.
Unironically this, and it also did it better.
Reminder, just because something is simpler doesn't mean it's worse. Quite the contrary, often.
The ironic thing is that no major characters died in Eva.
I still don't understand why Madoka is so often compared to Evangelion.
The two are nothing alike.
I wouldnt say it is worse. It just didnt do it to a point where eva became Iconic. Gundam is iconic too but they are 2 different fields of genres. Like horror action comedy. shit like that. Eva just did shit in the sense of the twilight zone area of anime.
Evangelion is the most accurate modern depiction of Christianity.
Misato did, her body was blown in hald when you see her tanged body.
Misato was irrelevant.
>I'm 13yo and this is too confusing.
the the twist into a darker theme, and applying more realistic reasoning among characters, and the main protag responsible for the end of the world.
So, how can anyone call Evangelion a masterpiece when half of its plot is kept out of the series itself? It's just not a good writing practice. Looking at
ah i see where you going here
>plotfags strikes again
because its the human relationship being analyzed from the perspective of a mentally broken person.
I think the ironic thing is that Tomino called Eva out for being depressing, when he is the guy who created Ideon.
Considering the massive amount of shit and lore outside the actual, original series, (rebuilds, games, movies, etc.) I'm suspecting the main goal here is to create so much lore around it that it effectively becomes impossible to distinguish what is and what isn't Eva, to ultimately shadow the original series and portray Eva as something it never was.
That post was just one of many.
Is this what the dub/translations did to normal fags?
yeah seems so.
>lost in translation
Are Evafags gonna steep this low now?
nah, the shadowy investors are the illuminati, they manipulate from the shadows while local government goes on as we would think. The main character cant even remember his mom, so he wouldnt know, pretty sure he is drawn to her by just by familiarity.
MC wants recognition from his daddy. He grows a gay complex near the end.
Thing is direct translation doesnt help new watchers of Eva. They are used to seeing dubs with actual english and if they did a direct translation of japanese everyone would deliver the lines like Yoda.
That would be a funny video though.... Any one wanna do redub clips with Direct Translations?
Evangelion makes perfect sense as it is without the supplementary information coming from Anno years after it. Not everything needs a completely thorough explicit explanation
>Is this just about a death cult made up of scientists who receive funding from the government and shadowy investors?
No. Only Gendo, Ritsuko, and Rei are in on the Third Impact plan, and characterizing their views as "death cult" is highly debatable.
>Does the main character want to fuck his mom, kill his dad and also want to bang that alien dude?
Yes.
