Madoka and Lain have nothing in common. And I think Lain is pretty overrated in general. Madoka is too but I think Lain is more overrated.

Never feel compelled to watch/try or finish something you don't care about/don't like. You're at the point now where you've watched enough anime to know that you can easily know you won't like something and don't have to force yourself to check it out just because of hype.
I watched Madoka as it came out and avoided all hype/talk around it because I didn't bother with associating with talking to anime fans online when it aired and I still didn't enjoy it.
Its one of the reasons I will never ever watch/read something I don't like, I don't want a repeat of this.

I think I may have been set to hate it though, actually phantom is probably largely the reason for this, that anime infuriated me.

I knew I wouldn't like it going in one gender cast, and yuri-baiting. 6 episodes in, and I just dropped it, maybe I'll go back to it, but it isn't a masterpiece
