OP here, as for my own opinion, I'm currently on chapter 60, I'm thinking of buying it when I catch up to the official releases (or volume 12 or 13?).
I like it from an art and action standpoint, I don't know where some of the background plot threads are going to go though and there could be more character development.
Really liked the whole Haruna/Makie thing.
I didn't hate the anime adaptation and though the second movie went in an interesting direction and the scene of Iona dodging missiles was pretty cool I guess.
Eh I prefer petite characters, Iona was more my thing, maybe Takao aswell.

It's not possible anymore, the author fucked himself by constantly adding more characters, plotlines and locations. There's no place to develop anything anymore. Even now he can't a fynamic story, all is dragging on with constant switch to different characters and locations, and the story is stalling. Just compare it to the dynamism of the plots and action in the beginning.
Vinland Saga has exactly the same problem (thoug with Siggy and his merry band GTFO, things could improve now).

there's just way too much shit going on at the same time and the author can't anything actually going on significantly with the amount of pages he can produce every months, so the story has been basically stalled for years

The manga started going in circles and kept going. 10 chapter long battles, 20 or 30 building up to a fucking school festival to tell us stuff half the cast has already figured out or knew. The main dude hasn't been on his ship for like 40 chapters. 90% of the ships don't even want to fight anymore, which feels like a bow to waifuism and a wave aaway of how they fucked the world economy and killed hundreds of millions by shutting down the sea and air and condemned billions to autocracies. All I want them to do is cross the fucking Pacific and advance the plot.
