Episode had decent worldbuilding (showing angel disposal as a reality, showing that NERV has competitors who want their contracts, showing humans trying to combat the angel problem without abominations) and some decent development of Shinji and Misato's relationship.

Endings for characters like Maya and Penpen are silly so I doubt they're canon, but endings for Kaji and Kaworu seem to be have had a lot of staff influence because they reference things that later happen in Rebuild.

An interesting tidbit is the only way to get one of the 'good' endings in the game and prevent instrumentality/3rd impact is by convincing Kaworu to not die.
If Kaworu dies, you're locked into one of the bad endings where 3rd impact occurs, MPEvas are released, Misato/Ritsuko die, etc.
