Togashi, the greatest mangaka of Japan, named Dr. Stone (along with Kimetsu no Yaiba and World Trigger) as the Shonen manga that give him hope for the future of Shonen Jump.

Given Togashi's almost impecable trackrecord (World Trigger had an awful adaptation), I can safely say this will be a 9/10. And hopefully the long-awaited hero killer.

eh, from what i understand the writer didn't really think of something strong in the start, and kind of winged it by switching the focus to the colorful hair kid from the generic strongman hardworking mc, but that lack of confidence in ones original ideas rings pretty hard as a bad sign to me, and although i haven't read past the first 20 or so chapters, this manga simply doesn't seem exciting or interesting enough to be a huge success.

i personally don't care either way, the first 12 minutes was incredibly underwhelming.

The second they defeat the current problem with the petrification there will be nothing else to accomplish aside from other scientific gadgets.
I can see the ending:
Senkuu gets mortally wounded at the last couple chapters, to save him his friends petrify him and tell him it will take a couple of years before they have enough juice to revive him.
Than we see a motage of all the people living their lives, having relationships, getting old, dying, all the while Senkuu is surrounded by people who talk to him, than the MC and girlfriend have kids, get old and die, the kids take over the role but die after being married, getting old and having kids as well, than a unknown amount of generations later they revive him, he thinks just a few hundred years passed but as he leaves the tend he is greeted by the whole world who is now on a sci-fi level of technology.
The story ends with Senkuu now getting to learn a shitton of new stuff and find out how far mankind managed to come on their own without him.

That's a pretty shitty ending.

If Stone has shit sales, this merely proves the market has shit taste. The premise and execution are honestly more brilliant than any of its peers.

My post never implied Toriko wasn't influenced by anyone else, but Dragon Ball's influence is the most apparent. Toriko is a Goku expy, Capture Levels = Power Levels, the main villain is a planet-destroying omnicidal maniac, the list goes on. You could even argue JoJo was an inspiration because of the similarities between Appetite Demons/Stands.

As I said, it's a straightforward series about scientific inventions. What's original about it is the hero solves his problems by intelligence and innovation instead of might, which is a rarity in shonen. There are also some deeper themes about the potential evils of technology and anarcho-primitivism (think Ted Kaczynski), but they take a back seat.

It is, because it shows audiences can and should appreciate works that challenge conventions.

I think Magi would be good/top tier were it not for the jumbled mess and unsatisfying ending that followed Alma Torra. I love the series but the writing took a serious hit at that point.

No but villains have superhuman strength and are the apex predators. The first villain gets defeated in the 60 or so chapters and there's a huge reveal later on that made me have goosebumps. The overall feeling of treat is always there as the main character is really weak and has to use his mind to overcome the odds. I felt dread every time the villains showed up as they were hugely overpowering and outnumbering the main cast each time. So yeah, there is a much bigger threat set up later on, but the first villain is legit fucking amazing. Also most of it is rather comfy and comedic which it pulls off extremely well, but if you're not into that it might not be for you. Still I'd 100% recommend to at least give it a shot for 5 or so episodes. It's one of my favorites if not my favorite shounen
