I'd swap the cast with Boku no Pico

Remove Father and Dante entirely, but use the 2003 premise that homunculi are created from human transmutation. Make Pride the ruler of the homunculi, but make an original character instead of Selim.

make someone else lust, sloth, and gluttony. they were the most fucking shallow characters. a part of me wishes raven was greed or some shit. dude was made out to be a decent villain but ended up getting stabbed through the arm and pushed into some fucking concrete lmao.

The original homunculi are part of the nation's military (who are now the bad guys) and replaced by Mustang, Riza and other prominent military figures. Edward and Alphonse are separated throughout the entire journey, both having former antagonists and neutral characters as traveling companions. It turns out that Father/Hohenheim is actually Ed reincarnating over and over as (his own) Father. In the end Al has to kill Ed to break the cycle and regain his body. Also Winry doesn't exist in this universe.

Should I watch Brotherhood or the old one first? Never read or watched anything FMA before

The sins dominate their fights and take over the nation, most of the known cast head off to another country to be a part of the resistance and strike force.
There they learn a new from of alchemy - rituals.
Rituals are done like alchemy but with pure faith and none of the circle science thing.

Read the manga. If you really don't want to, do the method where you switch from the original to the part where it stops being accurate to the manga.

Either way is fine, watch the movies "Conqueror of Shamballa" after FMA and "The Sacred Star of Milos" after FMAB

Bring Dante back as the Elric's wine aunt that occasionally trains them while lusting over their dad.

Watch the first version followed by its movie, then go on to brotherhood and its movie.

2) Replace him with a new unique Homonculi - Vainglory
3) Central Underground is a giant Philospher's Stone, the positions of wars and cities and utilities mark a giant transmutation circle that siphons the souls of the dead into the great stone.
4) Vainglory's ultimate goal is to gain enough souls and merge with the stone, overpowering the souls within so he can take over the true source of Alchemy, the Molten Core of the earth.
5) The earth's layers and core form a grand transmutation sphere. All life on earth is a constant alchemical reaction. This is why alchemy cannot make true life. The process requires something on this scale.
6) Homonculi are failed humans, but have ZERO ties to the failed "host", and are instead amalgamations of souls "stolen" from the newly born. A full homonculous takes the lives of dozens of children in the women to make a very small philosopher's stone as their core. A homonculous without new stones only lives for a few months, or a year at most.

I was going to make an isekai joke, but the movie already did that for me.

Riza could always make her not boring somehow.
