My biggest issue with how the show handled it was neither Retsuko or Tadano showed any willingness to compromise. In a real life situation, if they both really loved each other and wanted things to work, Retsuko could have at least given him time to think about it. Tadano could have at least tried to consider it for her sake, but no because this is animeland, they have to stay cardboard cutouts of their tropes till the end and break up.

There were a lot of red flags. Tadano was slowly letting more and more of his incompatibilities be revealed. He at least had the social intelligence to not spring it all on her at once, but because the paparazzi forced Retsuko into his world, he kind of had to speed up the process. He's not just some normal guy who happens to be rich and love Retsuko. He's revealed that he's a communist, and that he doesn't believe in marriage. What else would he have revealed down the line if Retsuko didn't break up with him first? He may be polyamorous, and have been cheating ("'cheating', that's such an archaic concept Retsi.") on Retsuko on the side (something that she'd find out from paparazzi). He may not have been a silly "fully-automated-gay-space-communism" communist, but something more radical and violent. He may have been against having children ("don't you know that it's bad for the environment? Abe's wrong; Japan doesn't need children, cause a human workforce is obsolete"). And he mentioned that he was funded by venture capital, which means that his company might not actually be profitable. What if, as is more often the case than not with tech start-ups, his company goes bankrupt? Maybe the AI doens't work as well as it seems, or even causes a lot of harm and incurs lawsuits? Would Retsuko be happy with him as a NEET?
