Anime was never good
No.
No. There's just a lot more anime nowadays, so the number of bad stuff is naturally high, but anime nowadays is much better for the most part.
Nope. It's just cartoons. How good do you expect it to be? The only difference now is that anime is kinda known in other countries too.
:(
No. I've watched in that era so I'll tell you know.
Everything we have now is just the same as then. The only difference is that there are more shows produced now. That's it.
Absolutely not.
The only big thing that was better is that digital coloring is worse than cells.
Other than that they used to have better backgrounds on average, and I'd argue they were better at doing more with less (although the 00's were the masters at this).
But If I were forced to decide a decade from which I had to watch a random anime from, I'd choose the 10's without a doubt.
The only problem with choosing the 10s as your decade for a random anime pick, is that the 10s have a wildly higher proportion of specials most of which are primarily just fanservice for fans of the actual show. Besides that I cosign this.
Yes Unlike the mass produced trash that is made today, anime back then was made more slowly. This allowed for much higher quality and standards.
I like quite a bit of stuff from the 80s, 90s, 00s, and 10s. Nothing in the 10s (or 00s) really bothers me outside of CGI. If CGI in anime didn't exist everything would be pretty good for me. I'm not someone that thinks the 80s and 90s were some golden age, though the bubble that people talk about is obvious with the high budget stuff. I just watched Royal Space Force the other day and that was pretty fucking beautiful. Plus having OVAs as a middle ground between TV series and movies, which isn't as much of a thing anymore. And average episode count is lower these days I'd say. There's still been some great stuff from the 00s and 10s though. I just wish studios would get a handle on digital animation already, since there's still a lot of issues that persist despite it being a common thing for 2 decades at this point. Not that there hasn't been some productions that I think have used it well.
Quite a lot of good manga these days too. I didn't want to keep following more and more series but I can't help picking more stuff up at times.
lol
Maybe I just got used to it, but I feel CGI got a lot better in the last 10 years.
I remember getting bothered by CGI doors but today I don't even notice them.
Go watch Fairy Gone and see if you still feel that way. It an anime only has a scene or two with cars and they're CGI that isn't really an issue generally. But if the CGI is frequent, like in Fairy Gone, or in anime based on mechanical things, then it generally looks like shit.
Also CGI is used in movies too, even though they should have the budget and manpower to not need to use it.

I did and dropped it in good part because of that. I know that there are stinkers.
the problem is reddit genuinely believe this
It used to be good, now it is mediocre
SHUT UP, MIKA
I like to think that it was simply a different experience.
You would watch it either on public TV or on the cable network and, since the access to it was a lot more limited than it is today, it's quite possible that if you liked the anime, you loved the anime.
Now, I have no idea about how the younger ones view it, but when I look at the attached picture, for instance, the effect on me is totally endearing. The background is a very aesthetic painting, and the colors are desaturated, I just like that.

There are a ton of animes now, a lot of them are better than many 80s ones, but I favor the old, for I am old.
Absolutely. Modern anime is all CGI & unfunny romcom harem TRASH.
>romcom harem TRASH.
This was pretty common in the 90s too.
Hope you stick around in the next few years senpai.
I'm aware. My post was merely in jest. My actual opinion is the 80s and 90s were worse overall than the 00s and 10s, but the big hits of those decades were better than recent hits.
80s, strong ova and movie market
90s, mediocre but charming lots of fun tv series aimed at kids
00s, a mediocre roller coaster a mix of the past decades and a prototype of the 10s
10s, the decade of long commercials disguised as adaptations.
example of a long commercial pls
You can pick any 12 episode long LN adaptation
Yes it was better
Yes, even "remakes" of old anime end up being worse. The drop in quality between the beginning of Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0 and the first couple of episodes of the original show is so fucking immense i dont know how they fucked it up. They CGI in cars that were already hand drawn, what the fuck?
Ah shit Here we go again
