Unironically this. It has its moments, but the show goes downhill fast after Kamina dies and the audience is never given enough of a reason to like Simon, much less care about him.

It was a cool fight, there's no denying that. But I have no desire to ever rewatch the show because up to the very end I just didn't care for Simon all that much, even if he did become kind of a badass. Yoko is easy on the eyes, but overrated as a character. Nia is cuter imo, but her appearances later on are frustratingly few and far between. Outside of a few fanservice scenes and some top-tier music I just don't find much of a reason to ever go back to the show.

TTGL doesn't even get good until Kamina's death sets the plot and characters into motion. If you just want to see badass robot fights and hot babes which, by the looks of it, you do then something like Xabungle or Gravion is probably more your speed. You're welcome.

It's double symbolic, too. TTGL literally goes super-universal, to the point where STTGL's drill is the biggest conceivable object in history.
This means, no matter what, any other anime that works its way up to an intergalactic level is following the path Simon drilled to the Heavens.

Simon getting his shit together and wrecking Genome was the best part of the show. The second half isn't bad either, having the first half be better than the second doesn't make it shit especially with the last fight and that ending.
