I think there is something off about her.

The user who qualityposted about Fuji's use of manga like a purely or essentially visual medium was correct (pic related). We got the same thing with Makima's interaction with Madoka in this chapter, obviously to a lesser degree.

On a side note: I can't help but get the feeling that the restaurant scene after the infinity devil with the ensuing almost total slaughter of the team gathered there afterwards is a kind of reservoir dogs nod. The fact that devil hunters all wear (presumably black) suits just makes me think so a little more.
Breaking bread/having a meal is a really common symbolic motif, especially to Tarantino, so this particular thing being a sort of fixation for Makima, like this user said: really makes me paranoid about her knowledge and intentions.

I do feel though like the series would work better on a monthly or bi-weekly release though, but that may just be because the waits mixed with the page counts kill me.

My guess is that machete works like chainsaw cord on Denji. Denji got his neck snapped and died in infinity devil fight, as well as getting shot in the brain earlier, but just pulling the cord to "start" the chainsaw revive him instantly depending on his vitality.

I think this is one of the reasons why Chainsawman and firepunch seem so unique and weird comared to most other manga.

Fujimoto is probably influenced more by movies than other manga so he brings in other narration styles that aren't typically used by manga authors.

I like Kobeni's characterization so far, because of her sisters she feels completely worthless and unspecial, despite apparently being pretty skilled. She's a lot like Denji in that she just wants a normal comfy life, but her family's circumstances (notably a lot less shitty than Denji's) just couldn't support a future for both her and her sisters.

Hopefully we can get some scenes with her and Denji bonding over everyday simple luxuries. I could see them chatting to each other about their respective shit childhoods, which could help Denji empathize with others a bit more and make Kobeni reflect on how her own position in life isn't so bad in comparison.

Makima didn't order the shooting, but she knew about it beforehand and did nothing to stop it. If she ordered it, there's no reason to have her get shot too. The scar twins saw blood on her shirt, so she didn't make it up. Also she views Denji as valuable and Snake Eyes almost got away with him. I imagine that Makima killed the guys that shot her but let one of them live to hell her the names of the others. Shadman and Snake Eyes seemed the only devilmen in the group and the Leaders, so they could've not used their real names. All Makima had to keikaku doori is that enough of the squads would die for them to merge.

This brings up and interesting point of what the story structure's gonna be from here on out. You could have assumed it would be demon of the month with crazy missions, but everyone's fucking dead. They could have easily used the current group a little longer unless they have something beyond that pace in store for the new squad.

Snake and Shad are recurring jobbers trying to impede the team while they collect the gun devil fragments while working to uncover the organization that ordered the hit. A dark conspiracy is revealed etc etc.

Or he could just pull a firepunch and nail his own balls to the wall in a fit of batshit insanity in between author comments on how much he likes watermelon.

This arc is all set up. We learned guns are extremely effective in this setting and not just pee shooters, recurring villains have been introduced and have been established as credible threats, We have our main crew finalized, we're introduced to their powers, and they now have motive to go out there and kill the gun devil and his cronies other than just Denji wanting poon. The story from here its probably going to just by rallying the characters, investigating what and why stuff happened, and going after them.

I doubt Jump will let him go full Star Wars

yeah, nah. I'm expecting Power to die and Kobeni to betray everyone. Denji is going to accidentally get captured by shadman while visiting a red light district and we'll have a thirty chapter intermission where Aki travels to paris chasing after shadman and is forced to take up a waiter position to sneak into the baguette devil hq.

there is a difference between hamfisted and congruent to the particular work. naruto wasn't terrible but often weaker than not, bleach had extremes of great and total shit, hunter x hunter has a different goal entirely, bnha and blackclover were virtually absent from the discussion. shoukugeki was some sort of slanted parody. i'd say gantz, gintama, koe no katachi did the stuff pretty well. the relative density related to intrusiveness ranges from absent to childish. chainsawman actually stands out compared to other shonen and if you aren't willing to look past nostalgia and other shitty attachments to appraise with even a hint of a halffuckopen critical eye then just fuck off.
