Again give it a try, watch a season and report back.. It's just 49/50 episodes, that's barely 4 seasonal anime, or 24 hr of content.

I think Elena is a relatively simple character, she doesn't have too many things going on in terms of complications. She's like the Sun, she's a constant in her group and that is fine. Madoka has family shenanigans, Lala is another illegal alien that will be deported eventually, Yuni has a ton of character development that is due, Twinklezoinks needs a couple of episodes to shine as expected of a pink. And who knows if there is still a sixth Cure coming. Elena on the other hand is just a nice Catholic girl who is family oriented, there is nothing about her character that necessitates much development. I say it's a bit unfortunate but from a writer's standpoint I completely understand why they're doing this. So long as they eventually acknowledge her extraordinary character, I'm completely fine with her relative unimportance.
Just change Elena for Yuuko and everything'll be the same (minus the whole alien stuff).

I see. The original Glitter Force is so heavily rewritten it's almost a gag dub; you can't even really compare the scripts for most scenes or characters, it'd be apples to corncobs. Glitter Force Doki Doki still changes a lot (and it cuts episodes apart and rearranges things a lot more), but it takes itself ever-so-slightly more seriously, so the scripts are still in the same ballpark as the original. A lot of scenes are actually almost identical (other than a layer of liberal Saban wisecracking), except in how they change the character dynamics. That's why I thought Dokidoki would make for a more interesting comparison.
