There is a "tv reproduction" that is two OVAs that are basically a highlight reel of the original anime but with many improvements. I recommend checking that out at least if you have read the Fate route.

TSUKIHIME REMAKE FUCKING WHEN

It's a 6/10 adaptation of 6/10 source material, but it has soul due to the great OST and how it sticks close to the visual presentation of the VN, what with adapting the CG images and using the day/interlude title screens as episode title screens. Splicing scenes from early UBW into the Fate route was a genius way to make the route less dull too, and the anime-only Archer vs Berserker fight is a must-watch. The only place where the adaptation truly shits itself is when it tries to half-assedly shoehorn the Dark Sakura plot into the Caster arc by having Caster kidnap Sakura and stick her in a BDSM suit.

Maybe if the route had the sense to end after they defeated Berserker, but the entire route past the Berserker fight is an incoherent slog that hinges entirely on referencing a past grail war you never heard about (and once they finally made Zero, its story majorly contradicts the events as they're told in Fate), and expecting you to somehow be invested in that. Kotomine and Gilgamesh as they're presented in Fate are complete letdowns for being final villains, much like Roa in the Arcueid route.

If they had shown Gilgamesh killing Kuzuki and Assassin in Fate instead of making it a mystery until F/HA, added a proper flashback showing Kiritsugu, Kotomine, Gilgamesh and Saber's involvement in the 4th war instead of making it a spinoff years later, and let Rin die at the end so that Shirou vs Kotomine would be personal, it would probably have been a pretty great route. But that didn't happen, and we're left with a half-baked route that relies on nothing but mysteries with answers that are common knowledge nowadays and that suffers heavily from early installment weirdness even compared to UBW and HF.

Each of the girls cater to a subconscious aspect of a man's wish in the dynamics of his relationship with the woman he is with:

Saber is the woman who is your equal and opposite; you are on even ground with her. If you want Saber you want someone who isn't ahead or behind you, but right next to you.

Rin is the woman who is ahead of you; she leads you and you are more comfortable with her making the decision. You want to take a backseat in the relationship, and even though you're not necessarily passive, you're happier that be the one to dictate the terms of the both of you going forward.

Sakura is the woman who follows you. You are the one taking the steps forward and you're happier with taking the risk/the brunt of whatever it is that's coming head-on rather than have her take the brunt of it or share the burden with her.

You really aren't, considering how obnoxious he is in Fate. His romance with Saber is so poorly written that even Nasu himself is ashamed of it, and Gilgamesh's entire role in the route basically is to be an NTR dude coming from out of nowhere to threaten the player's fragile ego. By the time Berserker is dead, you just want Saber to kill Caster, Assassin and Lancer already so she can get the grail, but they're all sidelined by some two-bit villains who you care even less for.

The reason it matters is because Caster randomly attacking the Emiya household is extremely contrived without the explanation for why she became so desperate, and Assassin receives zero explanation whatsoever for what happened to him after his flashy introduction early on. It comes off as a really obvious "read UBW to see the real second half of the grail war, lol" ploy, which is why the 06 adaptation cutting the bull and merging the routes so that all servants got to shine was a much needed improvement.

Why would they do this? The Berserker fight is what lead to the desperate love making that cemented the game as an eroge (which isn't a bad thing). It also allowed Gil to actually take on the role of Always-A-Bigger-Fish and be the next big bad guy.

After all that Saber and Shirou went through up to Gil showing up, you suddenly have this random asshole servant show up and try and NTR Shirou repeatedly but he keeps on fighting back. The subtext in these scenes is that Shirou treats Saber like a true companion while Gil wants to treat her like a possession, and this whole thing has you rooting for Shirou. This all leads up to the end where Saber manages to destroy Gil in a 1v1 at the end which is super fucking empowering.

Yes, if you are into anime hardcore enough. FSN is baby's first VN so it's a good place to start and allows you to properly enjoy the adaptations. The adaptations really are just highlight reels that don't fill in every detail (there is a lot of fucking detail) and some of them try and shoehorn different parts of the other 2 routes which kinda of fucks things up in some ways.

It feels like your watching a movie half the time with the amount of effects, voice-acting, and transition effects. The h-scenes are cute but kinda out of place, but the drama is great.

most of the KnK changes were actually helmed by the directors, as in, they only made changes they liked.

there was only 1 director who did everything nasu told him to, and that was the KnK 6 director. which is why he was chosen to do Fate/stay night [Unlimited Blade Works].

what we do know is that nasu was rewriting Fate/stay night [Heaven's Feel] heavily, likely way beyond the scope of any changes in KnK. fortunately Tomonori Sudou still had the balls to tell nasu to fuck off despite the immense "power" that fgo granted him now.

what you need to know about nasu is that he is the george lucas of japan. I don't know why this is only a thing in the japanese community, but it's not uncommon to see him refered to there as "book burning nasu" because he shits on already established lore constantly. They also make fun of Miura in the comments for what he did in KnK6 (nips say he basically did whatever he want which ended in a monstrosity), UBW (they blame him for making it a zero sequel instead of stay night, and ended up being neither a zero sequel nor stay night) and fucking up Answer, Gil vs Shirou was shit and not accurate at all (even DEEN was more accurate) and Shirou in general was badly adapted..
