The OVA was really great, extremely soothing and relaxing. The MC is adorable and her friends are really nice people, they're all very close. It's heartwarming and delicate. It's less comedic than Hidamari Sketch, focusing more on the MC's healing and her friendships. Your heart is soothed as theirs are.
S1, S2, and the movies were good as well, but not quite as good as the OVA.
I'd recommend watching it when you're most comfortable, and only a little bit at a time. Maybe an episode right before bed with a nice cup of tea, if that's your cup of tea.

Girls' Last Tour and Shimeji Simulation are very different from Hidamari Sketch. They just have the wideness in common. But Hidamari Sketch is warm and happy while GLT and SS are like something you'd expect a person would read before they killed themselves. Girls' Last Tour has the appeal of people visiting run down and abandoned locations though, which is comfy for some people. Shimeji doesn't really have that appeal.

I didn't get very doomy undertones out of Mushishi. Not that I got hopeful ones either, it was a story with a very matter of factly message. Ginko saw the world as it was, not as being good or bad, but simply as it was.
If you liked Mushishi a lot, as an episodic series following a talented MC solving problems/commenting on the nature of humanity sort of like Aesop's fables, check out: Master Keaton, Mononoke, Kino no Tabi. A real hit or miss recommendation would be Gunjou no Magmell.
The girls in SSR were wandering around an abandoned city, living out their presumed last days. They were having a good time, but deep down, and the audience as well, they knew it wasn't for long and they were doomed.

I don't know how different the Mushishi anime is from the manga but I'm reading the manga right now and it doesn't seem doomy to me either. Mushi are just essentially forces of nature, not that different from diseases or natural disasters. They kill people or infect them, and sometimes those people can be helped and sometimes they can't. But it's just a natural thing that people live along side and it doesn't threaten the world or anything. At least so far. I'm only one volume 6.

I dunno it's been a while since I saw it but I watched most of the first season of Mushishi and it had some mushi causing some depressing stuff as far as I recall. Maybe doomy is the wrong word.

The mushi often caused unfortunate things and put people into depressing situations. MC tried to resolve that and show them the correct way to live in harmony with mushi/nature. Some stories were a lot darker than others, some were on the fanciful side. The message wasn't "bad stuff happens" it was "if you try to force your way through life, bad things will happen, so take it easy, be objective and conscientious, and you'll be alright."

I doubt the "discussions" are more than two posts long though. It's a slow board and doesn't have many individual posters. Their current thread has 17 (it's still small but I doubt it reaches 30 by bump limit), and this one has 150.
These threads are more rare but at least there's different people in them.
