how is turn a gundam? I just got it on dvd.

Turn-A is a solid series, well made animation/acting/musical wise that is relatively free from Gundam tropes and cliches. It works best if watched after already seeing a fair amount of Gundam, as it eventually plays up some meta elements of Gundam being such a long running series.

There's a release with hardsubs that someone with enough dedication could copy and turn into soft subs. I was thinking of trying to do that but I don't want to do it entirely by hand and couldn't get any of the programs that could potentially automate it to some extent to work.

Sayla's voice actress Yo Inoue left Japan for a number of years so she wasn't available to voice the character. They made Beltorchika in Zeta to roughly take her place rather than recast her.

I've watched 0079, Zeta, and 0080, and I only like the best parts of 0079. I tried to watch Wing, 00, Unicorn, IBO, and Thunderbolt, and they all sucked. Is Turn A worth it?

I liked Turn A a lot. I think it does a better job than any of the other (UC at least) Gundams at portraying a battlefield. The fighting isn't constant and people have downtime. I've heard people don't like the MS designs in Turn A but I think they're fine.

I think it means reusing scenes in a show. Like in 0079 there's a scene with ships flying in a certain way and getting destroyed and that's reused throughout the series. If you've seen Macross, think of that scene where a ship falls apart after getting shot by a laser that's reused a lot. It's not talking about the same scene reused in different shows but scenes reused within each show.

I don't think TV channels cancel things based on quality. Just if the ratings aren't as good as they want. You could make the best show ever made and if it doesn't have an audience and get ratings it's going to be canceled. The only reason the show was initially paired down to 39 episodes instead of 52 was because of a poor timeslot and advertising resulting in low nielsen ratings.
Word of mouth usually takes time but even still, gundam was extended by 4 episodes after it could reasonably be considered to be a social phenomenon.
Gundam was getting heaps of praise long before the movies were released.

I can understand why so many people on Yea Forums say they hate 0079 and then when prompted they said they watched the movies. Some of the changes are good things but they would be better if cut into the actual series and not in heavily abridged movies that feel like clip shows. I honestly don't know how anyone can defend summary movies with a straight face. They're always trash meant to do nothing but make a few more bucks at the box office.
