I do 1-2 chapters a week by myself, although I'm a lazy uni student.

I also only do romcom/sol with minimal sfx and easy Japanese.

I can't imagine doing 2 chapters a week solo unless they're short 8 page chapters or something.

I'd rather spend my time playing vidya and actually buying and reading lots of manga. scanlation is easy but takes hours.

I'm a part timer, but my series has pretty short chapters.

When will we get to the point where both typesetting and machine translations are perfect and done automatically so we'll never have to scanlate ever again?

Just having a fake nip address worked for me. Then again I didnt have a us address as well.

Machine's won't be able to translate unless they have eyes and brains. Many translations are highly contextual and need to compare to the manga panels to make sure the actions are reflecting what is actually going on. Laugh can also mean smile in some cases.

Some people are capable of doing a passable (not good) job of guessing lines from comparing several machine translator results to each other and doublechecking with jisho and weblio.jp.

Have scanlators feed them before and after images of redrawing and typesetting, then magically have them translate moon to a readable language all for the sake of non animtated chinese cartoons. Then sell that translator and make billions while simultaneously putting every single translator into suicide watch.

Why can't the nips just move on to a language that isn't contextual? They're already stealing a lot of Chinese and English words, why not just go full English?

Depends on the raw source. If it's a digital copy of the manga it's not that hard. If it's a magazine scan it's much more work, since the paper those things get printed on is so shitty and scanners create image noise when they scan those pages.

I'm pretty sure MD made it against the rules or at least heavily discouraged people from contacting translation groups to request that they pick up certain series. Not sure how often that was happening for them to have that policy about it.

That depends on the manga, but I think usually people use weird typesetting to match what's in the original. Nips go nuts with those things, especially for SFX.

Again, depends on the series, some mangaka are bastards and put giant kanjis right on character faces and really hard to redraw hair, i say this because my team had many works like that and i had so many redrawers not able to do a good enough job even if they had experience (and how quick they burned out too).

If I was dumb enough to translate, there would be absolutely no way in hell I'd waste my time on cleaning and editing work. That's the reason people join groups, because it's absolutely retarded to do grunt work when you have an actual skill.

Ideally, a group consists of 2 members. A translator, who gets most of the profits and is effectively a silent partner, and a grunt monkey who maintains the site and does all the editing work.

There's no reason to have more people than that, and the groups that do are generally led by "idea guys" who think they can delegate everything out so everyone only has to do a little bit of work, and they inevitably fall apart because people can't stick to schedules when they're unpaid monkeys.

The point is they really know Japanese and will try to out you as machinelator if they don't like your "translation". If people are convinced you don't really know Japanese they'll likely quit reading. But this is unlikely on aggregators like kissmanga since those are the more casual readers.

Ironically, you can be accused of "mistranslating" even if the translation is correct. Some people are just autistic about how things are translated. But if all they do is complain and never translate anything, then there's no reason to listen to them, because they don't contribute to the community.

you're a cleaner, not a redrawer. Leave it there, let it get typeset over and then either redraw it yourself or beg the redrawer of your group to do so. Unless it's incredibly easy there is no reason to start redrawing before something is typeset
