The thing about Madoka is that it actually has true depth.
And not like: "Oh, you shouldn't be depressed", or "You should trust your friends" and not even a "nothing matters lol" nihilism like Rick and Morty.

The full depth of it is just so far beyond the mainstream, that it really is hopeless to explain it, as, frankly, it is just so much and so multifaceted that actually managing to properly describe that is a herculean task in of itself.
So perhaps I shall point out a few observations that might help you appreciate it more:

1.) Madoka is the only literally work that managed to synthezise deconstructive critiqué into a "Auflösung" according to Hegelian Dialectic.

2.) Madoka systematically presents philosophical positions, values and maxims and confronts them with each other and the world. Madoka transvaluates values, WITHOUT ending in nihilism, which is perhaps the thing that elevates it into divinity.

3.) Think about what "A magical girl of love and courage" means and who it applies to.

4.) Madoka witholds judgement. It is reasonable to justify the actions of every single character, the viewer can walk out of it with his own interpretation of it.

5.) Characters are DELIBERATLY mulitfaceted. Is Homura an obsessive stalker, or a selfless hero? Is she happy or sad about the ending of Rebellion?
What almost no one understands is that it is both - and this is deliberate. Multiple seemingly contradictory things can be true at the same time.

6.) It rhymes.

That user was only telling you the truth, and surely you can appreciate that we use different writing styles.

Yea Forums used to be different, but also the same, in that the userbase was easy to troll. Back then, there were no captchas yet, so a major thread type would be imagedump threads of your waifu. Waifu's were less serious business back then, so these were basically just sfw (and sometimes not) imagedumps. This was an appreciated type of thread because the booru environment was much shittier than it is now (danbooru only). Anyway, lancedjack was a Yea Forums troll who got permanently banned (by his tripcode iirc) from Yea Forums, so he came here. He declared a bunch of low quality girls his waifu, then shitted on peoples waifus. The trolling was not good, he specifically broke Yea Forums style conventions to piss people off (typing in all small letters, no punctuation, trivial complaints), and could write for 300 posts why any waifu was shit, none of it backed up by evidence and all of it juvenile ad hominem. He'd start the threads with a good piece of art from one of the imagedump threads of the character to catch the fans of the characters eye. Then he would just shit all over the character and argue with people. All of these threads went to 300 posts because summerfags (teenage anime fans on summer vacation) couldn't not reply. IRCs and MSN groups were spun up to use scripts to spam the threads with autogenerated text and slightly modified versions of the exact same image so the threads would hit the bump limit faster and leave. Eventually, Yea Forums mods stopped laughing at our misery and banned his ip from Yea Forums and his trip from Yea Forums. I googled him a minute ago, he's still online and thinks he's still a relevant troll. Keep in mind this is all stuff from 2009-2010. One of the worst posters we've ever had, 10 times worse than the kid with acne who was obsessed with the cat bitch from K-on!, but not dumb enough to post pics of himself.

I recently got back into watching animu after a similar long break from anime and Yea Forums. It was a lot more fun back when shows like Higurashi were airing. There were definitely not so many shonen-shit threads back then. Any Naruto thread would have been saged to oblivion.

You know, I've been curious about fate lately since it's showing up everywhere and it's such an old series. I remember downloading the first VN way back in like 2010 and never playing more than 5 minutes of it. The old fate animes were notoriously bad. I assume the new ones are good? Naruto threads showing up on Yea Forums were the first harbinger of destruction, I actually remember the year they became tolerated, though I don't remember which it is.

Yuri is good. In a related topic, I've noticed a shitload of yaoi with guys with female curves clearly aimed at a straight male audience. This seems odd to me because I remember yaoi always being rooted in BL Bishounen stuff. Are modern Yaoi themed shows also trying to appeal to men with thicc curvy traps, or is this just a doujin phenomenon?

The old Fate anime was done by DEEN and the new ones are done by a few studios of varying quality. Ufotable's Fate/Zero, UBW and Heaven's Feel anime are pretty decent, for the most part anyway. A-1 and Cloverworks have done the Fate Apocrypha which, has some highs and extreme lows. They also seem to be doing the upcoming Fate/Grand Order anime later this year.

I think the Fate series has enough to chew on that the usual shonen hate jerk can be put aside for a bit.

Madoka Magica is reverse yaoi.
This is just a necessary conclusion.

The ufotable adapations of Fate have all been much higher-quality. There are some spinoffs by other studios that are not as good. There is also a spinoff by Silver Link that is decent but may get you a trip in the party van.
