I dont think there is necessarily an issue with the premise of isekais, the problem is the execution fails everytime

Take Gate for example, it could have worked great if the people from the fantasy world would have put up an actual fight, like magic vs real world technology.
But what did they actually showed? Soldiers with automatic weapons mowing down horseman and archers like its some time-travel bullshit to the middle ages with some monsters thrown in.

All the others like the slime one,etc are always broken because the traveller always have OP powers instead of starting at lvl 1 and going up the power-levels like you would expect.

The only thing that really annoys me of isekai is that all the settings are so similar to each other that they could all take place in the same world.

I would be happy only if they were a more deep flavored. I don't even want something super original, just make the worlds a bit more unique like a pirate world with lovecraftian creatures, or something that looks more like ancient greece hero tales, steampunk, or at the very least just make your own race. Throwing the main character into a postapocalypse future or into space would be also a good option.

You can keep the formula with all the elements, overpowered, main character mediocre knowledge, slave girls, whatever. Just give me something that aesthetically is a bit different, just different enough so when I see a character, city or monster from that series I can say "that's from that series" and not from 2456 identycal settings with identycal monsters.

Or better yet, compare it to something that's close to being good, like Tanya the Evil. What spoils it? It's a battle of wills between God and a calculating, amoral atheist, where God is trying to break the atheist's will through suffering and struggle, so He puts him in a girl's body in the middle of a war... but He gives her superior magic powers, and then grants her a further major upgrade, setting her up to be an important, powerful person who has a relatively easy and satisfying life. It's telling two incompatible stories at once (while also trying to induce sexual attraction toward a character who is both underage and actually male, to sell merch, but let's not get into the whole issue of degenerate pandering).

Or for full contrast, look at a totally bog-standard isekai, like Slime. Just straight wish-fulfillment. Nothing's hard, he's never in any real danger, he just keeps discovering new powers and gaining new allies, who all love him. It's absolutely everything wrong with isekai. Just a game tour in god mode.

I think there's a generation of writers, artists, and animators in Japan who have basically no experience of life. They went to school, they consumed entertainment, and they worked as a writer, artist, or animator. That's it. They haven't had relationships, worked at other jobs, faced hardship, survived adventure. Mandatory schooling, consuming manga/anime/games, producing manga/anime/games. Abject poverty of life experience, and so everything they create is derivative and lifeless.

You lived in contact with nature and the seasons, stress was generally low, and the work was tangible and satisfying (think of plowing and planting a field by hand, and tending it as it grows, then harvesting it into food for your family). Wars, plagues, and famines were bad, but most of the time was between these. Life has to be pretty good for people to be able to survive for generation after generation and build up to greater things.

I'd like to see an isekai where a NEET ends up becoming just a peasant in a fantasy world (after initially thinking he would be a great hero), and realizes that this is a good life, too, and regrets how he wasted his time in the real world instead of participating in life.
