I really, really wanted to catch up to Aifure during the first season to see if they learned a lesson after the dogshit that was Stars and Prichan was exceptionally bad on the first episodes, but before both S2 even started Prichan had already sold me with the new character so I watched it instead and now that they're this far it feels like Aifure doesn't have much to offer. I wish they alternated between one/two seasons per gen so there could be more variety.

They're not "ancient", the reason they're used so much in anime is because they were a thing when the animators and the average viewer were in school. Them being phased out is a fairly recent development.
Modern gym classes use the kind of t-shirt-and-shorts outfits you see in Cocotama. It's the same deal - anime for older audiences use old-style uniforms because that's what the viewers know, while anime for little girls use current-style uniforms because that's what little girls know.

Nah, people usually decribe what they think is good about them. With Aikatsu literally anything can happen and people (mostly Akatsukin) gush as though whatever ordinary conversation or basic storytelling technique just was just shown was a masterpiece. It's one thing to say the way Ichigo passed the torch to Akari was touching and inspiring, another to go "holy cow Hibiki narrowed her eyes in that shot, this gesture speaks to years of dedication and oh gosh this cut has such deep emotion I have to finish cry-masturbating before I can continue watching."
