At this rate I really don't expect a single hero character to die again in this manga. It would also be hack writing to just make the strong Pillars die to sacrifice themselves while the weak characters beat Koku. We're talking about characters with such deep determination that they kill themselves just to wound a demon, there's no fucking way the strongest just throw their lives away to protect someone from a demon both of them would give their lives if they could kill.

Yes, he's infiltrating Nezuko's whereabouts at the moment. This would literally be the worst written arc otherwise. Nakime deliberately brought down strong hunters that she didn't need to who were nowhere near Muzan (Genya, Zenitsu, Kanao, Yushiro, Inosuke, etc.). That must mean she wanted them out of the picture for UM5 getting what Muzan wants (immortality).

I think this one of the most original weapons I’ve seen in a long time, a buffed up Kurasigama with a huge spiked ball-chain and instead of a little sickle it’s a huge axe at the other end.

The logic behind it is to probably just butcher demons while they're regenerating from the enormous shock of the ball, I don't think any demon except from upper moons could survive one blow before getting their necks shaved by the cleaver, it's as brutal as his backstory.

It just seems weird Kimetsu is getting one unless there's going to be new information which I would really love. I want names and brief histories of characters like the Lower Moons and shit like that but I know we won't get it. Databooks just seem so unnecessary in the Internet era. Fans just make wikis. It's like how One Piece keeps milking its fanbase over and over to buy content that doesn't reveal new information or gets it wrong.

The only databook I've ever cared about was BBF and fuck it, BBF is awesome. It's actually great since in World Trigger all the characters feel like they matter, and I genuinely want to know more about them.

I don’t think it’s that weird because a lot of series get data books around 15 volumes. I have the first one for Yowamushi Pedal which was after volume 17, and one for 7seeds that came out when the series was around 2/3 done.

I also forgot to add that data books also have a lot of color art so sometimes people will buy those if the mangaka doesn’t have an artbook, like Dorohedoro.

I really like how Tanjuuro turned out, he subverted the shit out of the traditional plot relevant dad shonen trope. He's important to Tanjiro, and bring Tanjiro more down to earth, by introducing his humble origins etc. I also really like how his new fighting style is his family´s hereditary ritual dance, just with a sword in hand, it didn't feel like an asspull when you realize he already knew all that. Also, his presence is fantastic.

I agree. I really love how Tanjiro's ancestry turned out so far but I do think the manga did a bad job of getting it across because most people still seem resistant to it. Everyone still wants to believe Tanjiro is magically special and his ancestors are important and the manga consistently leaves a back-door open to have a last minute reveal that they were a line of chosen ones and that could ruin all the set-up so far for me. I really hope Wani properly handles the reveal of why his family was killed and what knowledge they had. I really hope it's just that Koku knows who they are but they don't know who he is.

That's fine if they knew the dance and didn't know what it was. That is perfect. But that's not what people want. People want to ignore everything in the manga so far and continue to claim he's a descendant of the breath, that Tokitou is not and all that shit. In the end, the reveal of why Tanjiro's family was killed will really decide this. If his family was actually sought out and killed on purpose, there will have to be some last minute absolutely retarded reveal about their family being chosen ones which will ruin all the stuff with Tanjuro and just leave all sorts of questions. I completely acknowledge the manga could go that way but if it goes that way, I think it will be from audience pressure because it's what most of you want because I still believe the actual chosen one angle has always been what makes Nezuko special, not anything about Tanjiro.

My take is that UM1 killed his family, Tanjiro thinks was Muzan because UM1 has the most Muzan blood on him and the most similar smell and the reason he gave the blood to Nezuko was to “save” her when he had a moment of clarity.

I agree that UM1 probably killed them but I have no idea why. I genuinely think Nezuko got turned by accident though. The way she was left out in the sun and would have died if it wasn't cloudy or Tanjiro came is way too convenient if she was turned on purpose. There's also all the other stuff about her being the first to get the sun immortality and never needing to kill humans and all that. Tanjiro had flashbacks to spider lilies in LM5 arc and Nezuko had flashbacks to something being special about the families eyes with UM6. That stuff has to mean something but I don't want it to be a conspiracy, I want it to be an accident that just explains Nezuko being special in the same way Tanjuro passing down a folk dance helped Tanjiro.

You're overplaying the importance of stuff like Tokito being a blood descendant of a BoTS user when the only implication left by it was that by saving people, you too can become a chosen one.

And that would be fine. Again, if he has the earrings and doesn't know they are special because they aren't, that would be consistent with the manga. But if they are actually special, some bullshit will have to be thrown in about his family. The problem is this all hinges on what exactly happened in Chapter 1. Everyone wants his family to have been killed on purpose for being special, but if they were, why did nobody make sure they were dead, why did nobody kill them generations ago, why did they wait for the special boy to leave and never care that nobody there had earrings, why did nobody remember they had killed the special family? Why did nobody target the family with the history book (Rengoku) or the family with the actual descendant of a Sun Breath user (Tokitou)? Why did nobody in Tanjiro's family know about demons, or if they did, why were they so stupid they never passed it on to the man of the household (Tanjiro)?

Nezuko basically has undergone a lot over the time since becoming a demon, but the not eating people bit is probably key to becoming sun immune.

And at the start of the series, it was explained that demons are made from Muzan's blood, so I always took it as a given that Nezuko was turned into a demon just by an accidental blood spatter from muzan, which obviously in hindsight means something cut him.

I'm obviously talking about all the ways it intentionally subverts the result people want while leaving the door open to throw all the set-up it did and give people what they want. It turns out the guy Muzan fears was not Tanjiro's father and his father was just an ordinary man, it turns out the dance they passed on was a folk dance and Tanjiro knew nothing about it as a breath, it turned out their scars were not marks but just accidental injuries he happened to receive in life, it turns out anyone can get the marks, it turns out someone else had an ancestor who was a BoTS user, it turns out his plain ancestor met the Sunbro and thus confirmed Tanjiro was not the descendant of "another BoTS user", it presents the set-up for the manga as happening by chance rather than conspiracy and never suggests Tanjiro was special and his siblings weren't (Nezuko was special for other reasons).

BUT, it also piles up those coincidences so much they become suspicious, it never explains if the Sunbro gave his ancestor the earrings as a token of friendship or if something more Jump-style as a "passing of the torch" happened. It never explains if the Breath of the Sun is based on the folk dance or the folk dance is based on the Breath of the Sun. It never explains if any of the original Breath of the Sun users were more special than others, because we now know there were at least four of them, Tokitou's ancestor was neither of the most prominent two and one of them is the right-hand man of Muzan and Muzan has no fear of him. It never explains why the hunter organization was so bad at passing all this stuff along or what Tanjiro's family knew. If it goes the generic Jump conspiracy route, all that earlier stuff will look obviously disingenuous. Why pretend the Kamado family was plain if they weren't, why make them ignorant of their own importance, why have the organization aware of other special bloodlines, etc?

You're too naive, all of what you said can be explained by Tanjiro's family being hidden from Muzan's sight until then, they were passing down the Hinokami Kagura as a dance for a reason.

That doesn't mean they have to ALSO give mystical powers, be a sign that you carry the special blood or skills that Sunbro passed onto you with his spirit and all that shit. That is totally optional and while it's exactly that dumb shit people expect from a Jump manga, it's not required and even people who expect it don't all think it's good. Plenty of people are mad about Luffy's straw hat being revealed to be magical too, that doesn't mean it wasn't predicted, but it wasn't required. That it happened to be Roger's hat and Luffy never finds out would have been just perfect and satisfying. It is the manga author's need to one-up themselves with ridiculous twists that push things beyond that and then in retrospect make characters that seem relatable become totally contrived plot devices.

Yeah, that's what I don't want but I acknowledge it's possible. I think you are wrong about Tokitou being descendant of Sunbro, though. We saw a panel with four Sunbreath users from the same generation. One was Sunbro, one was Kokushibou, one was unknown and one had the same markings as Tokitou and thus was presumably his ancestor. We'll get a flashback arc after this I'm sure to reveal that stuff but I think Koku and Sunbro just didn't have any children because they were lone-wolf types. Tokitou's ancestor was maybe the only one of them who had kids, but maybe that fourth guy did too.

In reality, neither are ideal in finished product but in principle an active wiki would be better until the series is over when an official databook could be released. I'm saying it makes more sense for editors to maintain a wiki online than publish a databook before the series is over. Even new information like the names of the Lower Moons or swamp demon/arm demon could have been revealed ages ago in the tankobons. Databooks make sense in the 80's and 90's.

Who's talking about censoring? I was just talking about how Kimetsu no Yaiba really wouldn't look out of place in Shounen Jump Plus, the online offshot of Jump that really seems to be pushing the "shounen" line on Champion RED magazine levels.

Ah. Well, I think Kimetsu is still pretty normal if not tame for Jump proper's standards. Champion Red is also regarded as shonen in the West, not in Japan. It's apparently based off a misconception because it started as a shonen magazine but if you look at anywhere to buy it, it's marked as seinen.

Had he appeared in his full-body, he would tower over Shinobu again and she would have no confidence over him and thus that scene couldn't happen. Watched a few episodes of the anime and enjoyed it so I marathoned the manga and liked it a lot.

Why doesn't this series get more love? It has a good cast and for once an MC who isn't a total faggot or a chosen one half demon nothin personnel type.

The pacing also seems decent, and it seems like the plot and fights actually move at a decent clip.

What I noticed is that the pacing feels different when you read the chapters in a row than when you're reading it weekly. I picked this when sword smith arc ended, so for me the pacing felt normal. Right now I feel it's going fast.

Many people are turned off by the unique artstyle. They are used to cookie-cutter moe art so they think this is ugly.
The first 30 chapters are honestly very shaky. While I still enjoy them, I can understand why some picky readers drop the manga at this point.
The manga is often called generic, but in fact it lacks many factors of modern battle shounen. The MC is not an underdog and he doesn't want to be the best at something. He neither edgy or hotheaded. There is no love interest or rival characters to speak of. There is no actual power system either. While some people finds the lack of these tropes refreshing, some other finds it uninteresting.
Despite being a mainstream battle shounen manga, it received little promotions in both Japan (in its early period) and the west. Not counting niche shit like Hinomaru, Kimetsu is the only long running WSJ manga in the current lineup that is never picked up by an established scanlation group. Even when the manga became popular in Japan and approached BC in volume sales, most casual readers in the west didn't even know it existed.
That said, it is currently very popular in nipland. Old school authors like Togashi and Nasu recommended it. Volume sales increases every week, and the anime's reception is very positive.

Nakime doesn't feel dangerous because all she does is teleporting stuff around. She hasn't demonstrated any offensive capabilities. Sure, she can drop you from a height or try to crush you into walls, but all of this is easily overcome by pillar-level characters (as demonstrated this very chapter).
