Human nature was ultimately more violent and brutal than the ants could even imagine.
Reminder that Netero could have detonated the bomb immediately, but chose to fight Meruem anyway because that's how he wanted to die, as a warrior fighting against an overpoweringly strong enemy. Netero was always waiting for someone strong enough to kill him and in the end he got his wish. He was sad that he had to kill Meruem, in order to defend humanity from the ants, but he didn't allow his feelings to get in the way of his duty.
