Kishi is self inserting in both naruto and sasuke by having them be away from their kids most of the time. But it feels like a forced conflict given their childhoods dictate they would be best dads. I wish the absent father trope was handled better.

Naruto was filled with mysteries about the world that made it fun to discover and explore. Most of these are gone in Boruto.

Naruto's power levels went off-the-charts after Pain (and during Pain). This makes most of the supporting cast feel boring and useless compared to Naruto and Sasuke, but Naruto and Sasuke's characters have been fully explored so the plot isn't interesting when it focuses on them either.

Naruto has been the MC for so long. It's one of the most popular manga ever. Boruto can't possibly be more popular like that.

Yeah during the Academy Graduation fight between Boruto and Kakashi, Kakashi talks about how he's definitely Genin-tier but likely Chunin tier.
It's this kind of wankery without anything backing it up which makes people dislike Boruto considering he also got 100% on his graduation written test while everyone else struggled.

He is basically drawing Boruto in his free time, it was on no fixed schedule until just now. Even now it's only monthly.

Boruto is basically Naruto's personality, Sasuke's talent, and none of their ambition or work ethic. He is lazy, he cheats to get ahead, and has no real struggle aside from "daddy issues."

Naruto was an annoying character too but he stood out because he had a dream that he was willing to die for, and it was enthralling even though he had a chakra deus ex machina magical beast inside his body that would shit out a win condition when he lost to actually talented opponents.

Naruto, at least in the beginning, had a much more mature, subdued tone to its lore. We had children who were sent out to wars and died (Kakashi admitted that all of his friends died very young and were memorialized on a stone for war casualties). Kakashi admitted to Naruto and Sasuke that children younger than them exist that are stronger than him (considering how Kakashi took Team 7 down effortlessly, and Kakashi was barely a match for Zabuza, that was very telling). You had a society of poor people being gouged out and executed by wealthy tycoons. You had poor kids forced to engage in grotesque human experiments by a literal sociopathic pedophile who actually burned off the faces of Chunin exam participants. You had a brother who slaughtered an entire clan all for the sake of gaining more power. You had Rock Lee, who had no talent and literally had to destroy his body from the inside out, who had his organs crushed by a talented opponent, only to realize he could never be a ninja again. You had Kankuro using puppets to stab and behead his opponents. You had a ninja throwing needles into people. You had Shino using a bloodsucking beetle to kill off his opponents. You had an uncle that was pretty much ordered to assassinate his nephew and blamed you for the death of his sister. Fucking early Naruto was some dark shit. Conversely, Boruto is baby's first anime kiddy garbage.

Say what you will about Naruto as a character, but at worst his backstory and it's corresponding goal made him tolerable. Most of the time you rooted for him to succeed or understood why. Not only does Boruto as a character lack the compelling motivation, his own conflict is far weaker and likable compared to his father's. It's going to stand out even worse in comparison. And then there's how everyone praises him and the plot centers on him in a completely inorganic way. It's basically filler Naruto plots taken up to ten all of the time. Everything has to focus on him and when it doesn't it has to come back to him. It's just unearned. He really is the worst combination of Naruto and Sasuke: he lacks the suffering that made their shit bearable to endearing.

Ikemoto has admitted that Boruto is the hardest to draw for him. He's specifically talked about needing to use references to draw Boruto. The reason in part it's to make him not look like Naruto, but it's also obviously in part because Boruto is the only character in the cast that he doesn't draw entirely in his own style. Instead, Boruto is a hybrid of his own style and Kishimoto's. Hes gotten alot better at drawing him since the 1st chapter though.

I don't like Boruto because I grew up with the old characters, and now they are 30, have their own families and kids. The anime should've continued after shipuuden where the characters are 20-25 years old. Don't have such a big time skip. Yes, yes, I know there are the movies and novels or whatever, but I want a series.

Not mentioning one of his Limbo Clones was already restrained, and the longer the fight would last, the more would end up Shukaku'd.

Sasuke was always a great character, and speedreading him makes you miss alot of subtle growth and changes he brought to the story. Alot of people miss his own analytic development of for simple in your face convinance the main lead brought.

Because it's a straight up rehash. If they wanted to explore the setting further they could have written a the story set in a different village or decades to the past or the future so everything would seem new. They could have used a different protagonist like an older more experienced character or a swordsman instead of a ninja. There were all kinds of things they could have done and what did they decide to go with? The same setting with an almost identical MC with the same techniques and with another group of cloaked villains and ancient aliens. If they wanted to make more Naruto they could have just made more Naruto. Instead they make cheap knockoff with very few original ideas. If you look up a "creatively bankrupt low effort cash grab" in a dictionary you will see a picture of Boruto.
