As frequent anime watching faggot, I've discovered I've become disillusioned with it all recently, the seasonal grind is retarded. With a few exceptions, people only watch this garbage to keep up and have something to talk to each other about. Maybe that's projection on my part, but I can tell you from the bottom of my heart that most of the shows I've seen airing in recent years feel tacky and cheap to me. That doesn't mean good stuff isn't out there, it just means it's harder to track down.
What's some anime media of genuine artistic quality? Good themes, fitting music, thoughtful characters and cinematography, without unnecessary sex appeal or rainbow-haired waifu harems. For example, I'm talking stuff like the original Eva, GITS, Jin-Roh, Lain, Akira, Berserk. Give me some anime for adults, doesn't have to be a ~20 year old 'classic', it just has to be thematically and artistically sound.
>m talking stuff like the original Eva, GITS, Jin-Roh, Lain, Akira, Berserk. How did I know this faggot would name this garbage. Please kill yourself and stick to braindead america cinema

Kokou no Hito Vinland Saga Real (Inoue Takehiko) Vagabond Shamo, etc
Jaxon Richardson
Those may be entry level but they're also good. It's worse to be a contrarian.
Tyler Roberts
They aren't though especially lain watch more anime because you clearly haven't
Christian Morales
Fuck off, newfag.
Brandon Williams
I'm not even OP. Lain is good. You, like much of Yea Forums, have shit taste.
Jaxson Edwards
>anything that appeals to my delicate western sensibilities is “artistically sound”
You got some growing up to do, champ.
Ayden Sanders
>akira You ever wondered why literary critics don't take most science fiction seriously?
Blake Young
All those manga with copious violence aren't mature. They're for edgy 14 year olds.
John Cooper
Because they are prose autists who don’t understand the worth of conceptual creativity and the way science fiction and fantasy can help expand the mind of anyone with an actual creative bone in their body.
That being said 1988’s Akira is a good technical showcase and not much more.
Nathaniel Lee
I've never seen a show with moeblobs reach the level of depth I'm talking about. Some have come pretty close, Steins Gate and Made in Abyss are nearly at that level, but not quite.
It's not about western cinema. Western cinema is pretentious and socially alienating, that's why I watch anime. It's less about culture and more about the complexity of the work, the amount of effort and thought that went into it. LOGH would be another good example of what I'm talking about.
Easton Diaz
You lack analytical skills, and can only see effort in work that demands more from you.
Henry Gomez
>logh >steins gate >made in abyss You're one of those plotfags who really can't understand what "depth" and "artistic quality" mean. Go watch game of thrones or some other shows.
Julian Wright
Forget about anime and start watching superior nippon cinema. Kurosawa is a good but relatively shallow starting point From there you can jump to real kino like Mizoguchi and Ozu
Luke Long
Go an watch girls last tour
Adrian Robinson
This too. Anime isn’t just a “story delivery system”.

Mushishi.

I suggest starting with Dezaki and the World Masterpiece Theatre shows to get a firm foundation of the anime aesthetic and directorial influence.
