Last time, on the way back to the usual gathering spot Takashi couldn't think of anything other than how awesome it felt riding, letting the muffler hit the ground to make sparks and such. However his mood was ruined when one of the JOKER members tried to talk to him, something he didn't want because he thought the guy was a joke. On the route back he wound up coming across the middle school he was kicked out of at the start of the series and could only reflect defiantly on how he wasn't the same shrimp anymore.
Back at the spot Ayase headed out as he had work. His father was looking for some extra help and Takashi promised to help out next week. Manion had stashed his Gorilla there as well and as dawn approached he got it out and rode it around to everyone's amusement.
I do appreciate how it doesn't come out of nowhere. You can see the seeds of it being planted back during the part where Shinobu got hit.

That "I'll be fine" a few chapters ago was a bit too suspicious.

Yeah there's a lot of flags but it doesn't just do it all at once. It builds up and then it just happens kind of senselessly after the most intense part for what'll wind up being a dumb reason of nobody paying attention to the light.
