>bad art

Togashi's art isn't always bad. He insists on doing everything himself instead of relying on assistants so the quality is inconsistent depending on his health.

SNK's current artstyle is really good in my opinion. The sometimes messy pages force you to make your reading rythm faster

The meme that SnK has bad art needs to end. It was rough at the start but it’s been good for a while now

people will hate me but its kinda true

can't wait for gon & co to arrive in gourmet world
only another 15 years at the current pace

Wow, it's not like every motherfucker doesn't already post this same fucking panel every single time people bring up Togashi's shit art.
Anyone could pull something like this if they had six months and a bunch of assistants. Or they could just pull a pic related if they were a lazy fuck.

HxH has a few good pages here and there like this one but most of it can look pretty bad and isn't very consistent. I'm a Hunterfag too, by the way. If most of the manga looked like that though, it would be fantastic.

That is one of the worst examples you can show for "good artwork". Everything drawn here is some fantasy creature or plant, so Togashi is free from criticism where people could point out bad proportions, anatomy, or really anything that they could use to compare his cartoon depictions to the real life inspiration. That is, you can compare a drawing of a regular dog to other artists' regular dog drawings or even a picture of a real dog, and objectively say how good the artwork is by comparison. However, a drawing of some fantasy "dog-like" creature is exempt from the same criticism simply because it's "supposed to" look different and stylized. So even though there are clearly things resembling trees, dinosaurs, elephants, bugs, a walrus, etc, all of these things are "FANTASY" so we can't call them out for looking like abysmal shit, they're supposed to look really weird.

The only reason people like you call it good is because of the excessive focus on line-art and details like the hatching and stippling, and just like said, all the time he has to do this makes it possible. ANY artist can make a drawing like this one. Please stop posting this bullshit page.

>art must be a mirror of the real world
imagine being so retarded

please calm down, drink some water

Long time SnKchad here, we are just trolling most of the time. We know SnK could never have as much quality as HxH (as the sales show). We just like to act retarded for (You)’s but just know we don’t really think SnK is better than hxh because that would be the height of arrogance.

Learn to read. Not once did I ever call Togashi's artwork overall bad, nor am I saying all art must be a mirror of the real world. I'm saying this page in particular is a horrible example to use. If Togashi wants to make a dinosaur with weird proportions, cartoony expression, extra limbs and anatomy that doesn't make sense, that's fine. I'm saying it's disingenuous to use that as representative of an artist's overall quality, since it's hard to discern what specific qualities make a fantasy creature good or bad and you could stretch the weirdness of a fantasy creature much further than and people would still defend it with the same "but it's supposed to look weird" argument. Outside of the clean linework and the details in hatching/stippling, which can all be explained by having extra time, what qualities would you point out about the page to qualify it as good artwork?

Are we just going to call any comment that tries to go beyond one or two sentences into explaining a viewpoint as excessive?

Togashi can draw well when he wants to. He just never cares enough.

This was in the last batch of chapters along with the Rihan wall of text.

>Outside of the clean linework and the details in hatching/stippling
That's the point. The people who criticize HxH for "bad art" are the newfag kind that think MORE DETAIL = MORE BETTER , and love to spam those draft pages from GI ending/early CA, so that page is an easy counterpoint. No one has criticisms about his anatomy or perspective or anything like that, because there's nothing to criticize when it comes to his technical ability.

>giant insects
well that explains the abundant oxygen

>people love to spam those draft pages from GI ending/early CA, so that page is an easy counterpoint
Fine, but the original post in this thread used that page alone as evidence for simply"good art", not as a counterargument against "Togashi can't do details". That page should not have been posted at all if the question is about overall good artwork, and we shouldn't imply that everyone already knows that Togashi can do everything else right so the only real evidence needed is that he can do fine details. If the question is about good artwork, people should post pages that nail every aspect down, not pages that highlight only a limited scope.

Huntards ruin another thread, and what else is new

Haven't read SnK but it's art looks fine when I see people post it. The artstyle is kind of strange but I wouldn't call it bad. Some people call sketchy art bad (Girls' Last Tour, Dorohedoro) but I like it at times. The manga that I'd say have art that appeals to me the least is stuff like Gantz or the Battle Royale manga. Their art is really uncanny and I don't really like it. I'm also not a fan of abusing filtered photos for backgrounds and I see people praise manga that do it all the time but I just don't like how it often looks. Doing that can be done well but some manga overuse it. It's like the clash between hand drawn animation and CGI.

black clover

I don't even disagree with the idea that Hunter Hunter has good ar,t but first of all it's clearly not always the case, in fact most of the time it's terrible, and second, everytime someone tries to defend Hunter Hunter art they post that exact same picture, which even when being a two page spread and having a lot of detail still manages to look like shit if you look at it for more than five seconds.
