Putting aside shipwars for just a moment, I really wish these threads would be more civil and just enjoy the characters and their interactions. But honestly a lot of the time when that does happen, far too often the person posting stuff usually has to have some implication of whether they prefer /u/ or not, leading to whoever's talking about it getting shit flung at them.
I also have to wonder how many people in these threads even care about Tomoko anymore. Just 3 years ago people were still worshipping her like a queen with the occasional "i love yuri" or "i love yoshida", but as time has gone on less and less threads have been about her but about the side characters. I've said this in the past, but it feels like a lot of /u/fags are just self-inserting as Tomoko now to fullfill their lesbo fantasies, and people are completely forgetting her as a character herself.
Now granted, I think that may be in part to how Nico themselves are treating Tomoko, giving her more of a supporting role compared to the side characters. Obviously it sells, so I guess that's why they do it, but it's just dissapointing to see her be ignored by her creators and given so much less character development in order to accelerate development of the rest of the cast.
My least favorite part of Watamote nowadays isn't the manga itself—it's fine, even if it has its flaws. But it's these threads which make me want to just drop it altogether.

Well, no. For one thing I'm a fucking guy, not a lesbian. I like seeing romance happen but not out of a fantasy because, obviously, I don't even have a vagina. Tomoko has been praised for nearly 10 years, user. New characters will obviously spark discussion about new characters. What new is there to be said about a character we know THIS well? The threads are not awful when chapters come out, but outside of them they're really just irritating because there's obviously been an influx of people who forgot the manga existed and now just want to crap on the threads, like any popular series.
If you want to drop the series for the threads that seems pretty dumb, though. Ultimately the shitposting actually isn't that intense and more importantly, who the fuck cares. If you're thinking about dropping it just because you think this is bad, I dunno, I'd say look at Attack on Titan threads. That's true, dark, garbage.
