There was never going to be a season 2 right after the first no matter how well Shield Hero did. And it's done shockingly well. That's just not how Kadokawa does things. Look how long it took them to do more seasons of Overlord or Re:Zero. It's going to be at least 2-3 years before they announce a season 2, unless they do a spirit turtle movie or something.

So then i've been reading that other novel that was getting an LN. Apparently it's the standard classroom isekai, some decided to fight for the country, others(like the MC) went their own way and went to join the adventurer's guild. But they found out they need some sort of official identification to join in. MC decides to serve as a soldier for 2 years to get the ID and join the adventurer's guild. Spin-offs are the worst. Especially ones that don't contribute anything to the main story. At least the GS spin-offs LNs explains how GS got to where he did and expands on the world with other perspectives.
The Spear Hero spin-off is basically doing the same shit Shield Hero is doing but doing an alternative timeline. Hey, if you want to be so cash grabby and have no creativity, why not make a Bow Hero and Sword Hero spin-off as well? And make each iteration more gruesome and edgier than the last. Don't have to add anything new, just go through the same premise but have more deaths. Tread on what you've tread on before, but do it "differently" by moving characters around.

He looks like a bumbling fool to everyone else, but from his perspective, he tries his best and has a heart of gold, but just easily swayed and manipulated. Have him be the same boisterous self, but have his actions have positive impact in the world around him. Have him explore territories not explored by Shield Hero and add depth and history to the world. Have him grow as a character so when he's competent in the main story, you know why and what he's been through.

Naofumi's is an absolute asshole. That's the point. He's a businessman that expects to be paid for his work and sees to it that he's ALWAYS paid in goods or services for his hero work. That's the whole point of the manga.
He's genuinely wounded by how Myne and the other heroes treated him and the anime does not convey this enough. Naofumi arrived there to 'make amends' with the other heroes because the Filo queen asked him to, but when the other heroes asked Naofumi instead of Naofumi asking them, he wasn't able to go through with it because guess what, he still can't get over himself and over them.
It's what makes his genuine hero acts that much more meaningful and we see that under this douchebag's skin is honest gold. It's why it's so meaningful when Naofumi is genuinely able to make true friends in the Scythe Hero and the Gem bitch when they're the ones supposed to be his enemies. You know, like irony. Can't make friends with his allies but is able to befriend the enemy? Almost like a fucking story.
