There's also use of force. You don't respond to a decrepit old woman or a child the same way you'd respond to a 6`8 wall of muscle (assuming no weaponry involved). Saying that, most anime villainesses are as powerful if not more so than the men, so punch away.

I feel like anime makers often try to include some lessons into their work, without understanding how children actually perceive anime.
When I watch One Piece, and Sanji gets BTFO by a female villain because he refuses to fight her, I don't think "wow, i guess you should never hit a lady". I think "wow, what a retard".
One Piece DOES successfully teach us that we should protect the innocent and weak, but it does so in a much more subtle and reasonable way. It makes me think that justice is being served, when Luffy is protecting the innocent and beating the bad guys. That's what sticks with the children in the end. Not what Sanji does.
On a side note, something similar happens with TV shows where children refuse to eat vegetables, and by the end of the episode they suddenly want to eat the vegetables.
What sticks with the children is "vegetables are yucky, and you have to be convinced to eat them"
