Evangelion was never good. It was relevant. There is a difference. Evangelion had 2 acomplishments tied to the moment on which it released. The first one is having actual tridimentional characters with actual character development on an anime show that´s neither a movie or an ova (and a mecha one at that). The second one was riding the crest of the wave that would actually push anime into western culture along with stuff like Akira or GITS. It also had above average visuals for it´s time.

None of that is still relevant and the story and characters are not particularly good by today´s standards so there is really no reason to hype it in 2019.
