Just finished the central arc, to be honest i skimmed through half of it, read some of it and looked for foodgasms. This manga kinda reminds me of Air Gear, started out entertaining and interesting and half way through towards the end it turns to shit.

Everyone in this cast was treated so badly Tsukada doesn't deserve them anymore, literally only Erina and Soma were exempt from this, and Soma is even very debateable. Another author needs to write a spinoff with these characters, fuck Tsukada. I'll never read another manga from him, hope no one ever picks up anything he writes again.

[Spoiler]Soma returns to Yukihira's. Before that, drops Tootsuki after losing Blue against El Hermano because he got stagnant there, and therefore, his cooking abilities haven't improved anything on his 3rd year and fucks off outside to study abroad. Erina marries El Hermano. Last shot is Soma challenging Erina (that went to visit Yukihira's) to a final shokugeki, but this time just to his heart content instead of proving a point.[/Spoiler]

Forgot the source: Tsukuda himself. I found him buying food on a local market here, he was kind of sick of writing manga and told me the spoilers. I wasn't supposed to tell you this, but given that Shokugeki fell out of grace, even for Jump people, confidentiality can be screwed.

If this is real, it's a complete lock out. Not a single second year has a seat. They must be frustrated as hell.

When Azami first showed his face I thought he was going to introduce an intriguing dilemma that would sort itself out in eight chapters tops. When it became clear that he and his drama were gonna stick around for a long time I started slowly losing my enthusiasm for the series.
Despite everything it wasn't until Asahi wiped Jou that I started actually hating the series.

The main problem with the arc was the group shokugeki, because it led to many, many instances of wasted potential, and ended up being incredibly contrived. The arc as a whole also went on to long. That said, it looks great in comparison to the last arc.

Wasted characters and potential.

Soma saving Megumi from expulsion. After that it was standard battle manga with endless tournament.

A scene so good it was referenced in some Fate fanart that surpassed 30k likes.

People got conditioned for a year to complain about every little thing about this manga, so it´s to be expected that the epilogue chapters will get the same treatment as well.

Despite that I enjoyed reading the chapters every week, in the sense that it did´t become a chore to read them at least for me.

But looking back and with all that happened, I acknowledge the last arc was not good overall for the many reasons people had mentioned before.

When exactly did it all go so terribly wrong? I think Erina becoming the headmaster was probably the worst thing overall.

You are probably right, I rarely entered the threads since February because of what they became.

But when I say people got conditioned to complain about every little thing I mean it. For example take that some are saying the art is bad now...I must ask really? It is different from what it was at the beginning, but that is normal because artist's drawing style usually changes over time. I agree some character redesign's after the RDC were not as good if that was what people meant, but the art style remained good.

In contrast if you take Haikyuu, thats a manga who's art style has degraded over the years, but I don't see people complaining about it.

Plus it was always basically guaranteed that their third year Elite 10 was going to be Erina+the 8 Autumn Election finalists+1 random dude. Erina ended up headmaster and Hisako her assistant instead of one of the Elite 10, so that left 3 open spots instead of 1. Go back the the Autumn election, and the runner up scores were:

88 - Marui
88 - Ibusaki
87 - Isami
87 - Houjou
86 - Nikumi
86 - Ryouko
86 - Yoshino
84 - Sadatsuka

Isami and Nikumi's character importance gets them in fairly automatically, and that leaves it a toss up between Marui and Ibusaki for the last spot. Ibusaki was the one more butthurt about not getting into the election, so that makes him the more logical choice.

There was actually a lot of hype surrounding Azami's debut, but mostly because of how game changing it could have been potentially.

When it became clear Central were nothing more than a boring strawman to fuel Erina's development, that's when everyone lost interest.

The series was never particularly deep, but each rival/antagonist had their own motivation that clashed with Soma's, which made for interesting matches; seeing their ideals at odds.

Central has none of that because they're so blatantly evil and have no depth beyond that. It's such a generic "good vs evil" story.

Offscreen you can do everything but that doesnt make a story good, especially when you use timeskips so frequently.

I knew the series was doomed when people were calling the chicken nugger arc filler and complaining that there needed to be higher stakes. that kind of thinking takes you right to the dumpster.

I really liked the Kaarage Wars arc and had no idea why people kept shitting on it.
It was nice to have a cooking challenge that didn't revolve around food battles for once and it set up Eizan's introduction.

Every time I think about this manga I get sad. Just thinking about how fun the early days were. It was one of the few manga/anime that brought me joy.

My liking of that arc was ruined when Eizan just became le generic smug, cocky jobber.

Not quite. People were interested in Azami and his takeover, but the initial "the shokugeki is dead and they're going to destroy Polestar" segment vs Eizan killed a lot of the momentum. It lost more momentum with the "Ryou vs random central underling" bit as it took way too long and the minion wasn't credible enough as a threat. I still think the poor reception of that match resulted in the mangaka skipping planned matches to cut short that arc and move onto the exams. Then things continued downhill from there.

No need to change perfection. On a more serious note, having her hair down would have been boring since Alice, Ryouko, Meat, and even Nene already have that look down. Erina got the short hair so obviously Megumi wasn't gonna get it. Hisako got the ponytail, Yuki just got longer hair, and Megumi already had pigtails for a good chunk of the series. It would have been nice to see a half down/half up hairstyle though. Hoping she has a chignon in the epilogue, I wanna see her in traditional clothing once more.

is this user dumb? all souma ever wanted from erina was to say his dish was delicious. he doesn't care about anything else. when el hermano came to claim her, souma just focuses on her god tongue. when her grandpa asks him to save her, he once again just focuses on wanting her to say its delicious. even when he was saving her in the previous chapter, he just wanted her haughty self to return so that he can foodrape her with his dish and have her say its good. the final chapter will be when that happens and that's it.
