What would you change about him to make him more likable? No genderswapping, no putting another character in his place, no waifu/shipperfaggotry.
What would you change about him to make him more likable? No genderswapping, no putting another character in his place...
I liked him a lot, hes a very realistic character unlike most shounen protags and much cooler than your seasonal dork that goes to hs.
No deku is shit.
Mob from mob psycho is better
Kill All Might
Make him less of a whiny bitch.
I’d honestly just make him cry less and give him more mad man moments like in the sports festival.
>mob psycho
I can smell the soi off your breath from here, user.
>more likable
... dude. He's ALREADY likable. He's more relatable than a lot of shonen protags out there right now.
What's wrong with him? Yeah, he's a crybaby (gets it from his mom I guess) but that just makes him seem more human. He doesn't feel like he fully deserves how blessed he is with all the help he's getting. He'll be a chad when he grows up anyway, it's all about the boys to men journey.
Just give the story ANY stakes
It feels always like the villains have zero chance since you know they're all massive jobbers compared to a group of high school students
Mob > deku
>dude. He's ALREADY likable. He's more relatable than a lot of shonen protags out there right now.
Not mob
mob is for lowly dorks that probably get bullied.
The dekuvirgin fears the mobchad
No mob is based unlike deku
He would be improved if he wasn't in school. Stories should take place at the most interesting part of a character's life and were deku fails is that we know he becomes the greatest hero and his high school life wouldn't be that interesting since he has no agency over his situation.
make him a girl like originally intended
>WAAH! WHY WASN'T I GIFTED WITH THE SUPERIOR ATHLETIC TALENT OF LEBRON!! MY LIIIFE IS OVER NOW!!
If his priority was only to save people like the narrative tries to claim, then he could have tried to become a doctor, but no being a doctor isn't KEWL.
>B-but muh notes!!
Why do MHAtards pretend that keeping track of your hobby is hard work? I've seen kids make higher quality scouting reports for the nba draft
nice shitpost, but he was sad he didn't get a quirk at all in a society where most people have them. It didn't have to be the most broken one.
still, he didn't allow that to tell him he couldn't be like all might so he deluded himself anyway. He was going to go for something like that after he got his reality check.
Not relatable to me. He's too weak willed and stupid.
Make him actually follow his teachers' example (especially All Might) instead of claiming that he intends to and then not doing it. For example, make him stop breaking his bones right away when Eraserhead scolded him instead of needing like 5 ultimatums to get it through his retarded head to stop doing that. Also try to actually act with confidence like All Might instead of like a nervous nerd.
I was hoping for a Tokyo Ghoul-esque character development where he turns into an absolute chad after something tragic happens to him
Dropped this shit after season 2 though, never have I seen a more generic shonen trash
>people actually advertised this as a "better" naruto
It's so fucking cliché in every aspect, it's nigh unwatchable sometimes without cringing
Also, I don't see why side characters get so much screen time when the MC sucks so bad? I appreciate them actually fleshing out the school kids but my god, give your MC some room for development
I also don't like the masochist boner the MC has for his abusive childhood friend, he really needs to man up, it's hard to watch
Like why is does he still care after 2 seasons of nothing but abuse and vitriol? Has the stockholm syndrome manifested so strongly he cannot get rid of it at all?
Just wouldn't have had All Might swoop in and give him his powers. Instead, defy all shounen troupes by having him make it on his own through inventions, trickery, and charisma/leadership with other characters who do have quirks. Maybe even do an old switcheroo where Deku goes to the police academy and becomes a detective, working his way up until he commands and coordinates a team of heroes while investigating villains.
If I can't make him a girl, make him a trap.
Nothing, I already like him and enjoy seeing him develop and grow up
simple kill him off he fucking sucks
Make Deku's power friendship.
>18 to 22 years of age
>not timid nor beta
>taller, not a lanky weakling
>stronger and more physically developed but not a powerhouse when introduced by any means. goes from being average guy to powerhouse with time.
>face less beta, drawn to be more of a man than a twink
>isnt a fucking beta
>isnt awkward nor a beta
honestly i hate this series and i cant wait for you fags to stop praising it to death.
Well first of all I'd flesh out the setting and supporting characters enough to actually have him interact with people in a meaningful way. Then I'd make him less of a bitch and more angry.
less crying after the first 3 or so episodes and less internal monologues. Should be doing more than rationalizing
Remove quirk then have him undergo a complete attitude change by turning him into a quiet, witty individual.
lame so pseudo intellectials who live in fantasy land can relate? no thanks. Hes a pretty realistic character at this point and pretty cool as well.
>weak willed
you got to be fucking kidding me
Kill him in the 3rd episode.
> realistic
> sucking off his bully
> realistic
stop sucking off your faggot bf whale
funny thing about posts like that you know they wouldn't even have survived the 10-month exercise and diet plan
>turning him into a quiet, witty individual
Literally Me
>Hes a pretty realistic character
He sucks his childhood's bully dick every chance he gets and all he got out of it was more bulling, does that sounds realistic to you? Do you do this in real life? Do you identefy as Deku while he's asking other people to fuck his wife?
He doesent get one for all. It negates the basis of his character as a broken heart kid who just wanted to be a good hero. Make all Might just have been born with it but he admires Deku and eventually Deku becomes a super without a quirk and has to figure out how he can compete despite being at a massive disadvantage, through working out and being clever and being the most dedicated. Hes basically Naruto otherwise aka: "Everything I have is a result of my HARD WORK not genetic superpowers!!! Ignore my mega super demon that gives me infinite power and that ive been trained personally by the best teachers in the world, im a SELF MADE MAN"
Weirdest thing to me about that is that he wanted to become a hero despite not having a quirk but he didn't start working out until after All Might offered to give him his. He also didn't have the discipline to practice to try to control his quirk until Torino told him to and instead resorted to breaking his fingers so that he could keep using his power without learning to control it. It's like he keeps bouncing back and forth between working hard and not working at all.
Maybe his worship of bakugo.
>no waifu
If he made a move on Ochako, he would be one of the GOATs just for that.
>Make him quirkless
>Give him quirkies gadgets like a grappling gun, rockets shoes, boomerang
try harder with your replies if you want a response.
This. He's a fuckin dork with some 13 notebooks of hero quirks. He's gotta stop crying and start using that knowledge to do more crazy tactics.
He could use more testosterone and be more chad. Same reason Bakugo is more likeable.
>Same reason Bakugo is more likeable.
Whatever, his temper tantrums, shouting, and shitty attitude are annoying as fuck
Makes every woman's giny tingle
They all want bakudick
Also every male wants to worship him because he is awesome. In a weird way bakugo turns this entire fanbase into one entirely out of Deku.
Turn him into Batman with the SEVEN STAGES of preparation autism, gadgets and shits and he will become more interesting. Also remove his beta crybaby personality as well.
Make him even more cute
I always figured losing (or maybe even sacrificing) OfA would be the logical next step in order for Deku to fully mature and come into his own, as opposed to mindlessly parroting All Might. Then he would have to resort to using tactics from his gay notebooks rather than “PUNCH HARDER” or “MUH LEG MUSCLES”. There would also be the whole angle of talent vs hard work which from what I’ve parsed seems to be somewhat of a theme, I’m not sure I didn’t watch past season 2, so Deku actually having to work his way back up the hero totem pole as a total normalfag after losing OfA might be interesting.
>which from what I’ve parsed seems to be somewhat of a theme
Completely wrong
It's 100% a theme. It's just that instead of it being the typical shonen theme of hard working and perseverance beating out talent and intelligence, hard work is meaningless in the face of overwhelming talent. Someone that's incredible skilled with an mediocre quirk will almost never beat someone who has a powerful quirk that's easy to use
>It's 100% a theme
Its really not.
You are just so used to it that you see it. You see someone who has talent fighting someone who doesn't so you think one represents talent and the other represents hard work
You are fucking wrong. Bakugo and Todoroki, both of which represent talent in different ways, ALSO work hard.
There is nobody who is talented and doesn't work hard.
It just isn't a theme
In fact in BnHA talent and Hard Work are not opposed.
He's not even on the upper half of current-Jump MCs desu.
>WAAH! WHY WASN'T I GIFTED WITH THE SUPERIOR ATHLETIC TALENT OF LEBRON!! MY LIIIFE IS OVER NOW!!
Isn't being quirkless more akin to having a disability though? There's a difference between "Wahh why can't i run like the top 1% of the athletes" and "Wahh i can't fucking walk" .
Have him lose a bit more often. He's supposed to be the underdog but he hasn't felt like that in a long time. He's won pretty much every fight he's ever fought apart from against the two autists.
In their universe yes
For us no
Did you also take forever to learn how to kick?
Just because he's a pussy most of the time doesn't mean he's weak willed. Also didn't he get to do the UA entrance exam based on his test results? He's up there in terms of the smarter characters.
NO
I never learned to be a pro kicker. Are you a pro martial artist?
Using quirks isn't as common as walking. It's not even legal to use them in a public place without a hero license. It's more like if you really wanted to be a professional basketball player but you were really short. Being really short isn't a disability, but it would be a big obstacle for you achieving your dreams.
80% of people aren't tall though
What is something 80% of the people have that is a requirement for a job?
Tall is still special in some way.
You wonder why he didn't just become a police man? Pretty sure they still exist in universe. A lot of heros are relegated to that type of work anyway.
All Might recommended it and Deku was basically on his way to it before All Might came again to offer One for All
He did say he was going to consider more realistic goals.
Shinso didn't have that great of a quirk for battle but he worked hard to effectively use it in combat along side his scarf weapon. Guess what? Deku pulls a powerful quirk out of his ass, uses it for the first time no training or hard work at all and completely shits all over Shinso. Hard work getting invalidated by other people's talent is definitely a theme. You're right, people with talent do work hard, it just makes it harder for those who work hard with no talent at all
Being a hero is a very specific job that a very small percentage of people actually have in that world. Even if 80% of the people have quirks, they can't actually use them in their daily lives because it's illegal without a hero license. In that sense, being quirkless wouldn't interfere with your daily life unless you wanted to be a hero much like how being short won't interfere with your daily life unless you want a job that requires you to be tall.
Also being really short is actually considered a disability.
Huh it has been a while since I read the first chapters. Well its nice when stuff like this is explained.
>Being a hero is a very specific job that a very small percentage of people actually have in that world.
Wrong
Literally everyone in the middle school class was going for a hero job
Its the most competitive and ridiculously over represented profession in this universe.
>Huh it has been a while since I read the first chapters.
People do forget he was on his way to become something other than a hero
I'd love it if he did more insane shit.
I want to fuck Deku's fat mom.
I'm talking about being short, not being a midget. Think Danny DeVito, not Wee-Man.
Not all of them succeed and become heroes. There's tons of civilians that have other jobs. That's like saying that being a movie star is a common job because so many people wish they could be movie stars.
I would have him not suck of his bully.
>Not all of them succeed and become heroes.
Most do
There are heroes on all levels. They don't become Endeavor/All Might top tier heroes but most of them will go in the hero course and get a job in that field
Many will just be sidekicks but as far as the story shows the only one in that class anyone thinks couldn't do it was deku
So just a quirk is enough
Give it up user, this faggots wont even realise the stupidity of their posts despite it being pointed out to them. They would even say that wood is fire no matter how retarded of a statement that would be.
No, most don't succeed. Most don't get accepted into any school and out of those, a lot never graduate. Society wouldn't even be able to function if the majority of people were heroes or sidekicks. That would make no sense.
>No, most don't succeed. Most don't get accepted into any school and out of those, a lot never graduate
Wrong
Literally bullshit.
I don't mean to burst your bubble but Danny Devito is actually short enough to legally be called disabled. The cut off point is around 4" 10.
> Also every male wants to worship him because he is awesome
No, we all want to BE him.
That is worship
Deku also wants to be him
why would I want to be a whiny little faggot when I can self insert as one punch chad
Imagine wanting to be an austic sperg with anger issues.
Wanting to be Bakugo is exactly what makes you a Deku.
No, I want to be the biggest chad on the show: Tsu
They probably are autistic spergs with anger issues
They just want to also be talented enough so everyone doesn't hate them
They think just being a sperg without the talent makes them bakugo
give him a massive cock
No, saying that most of the people who aspire to be heroes achieve it is bullshit. Just look at the amount of civilians and heroes there are every time there's an emergency. The hero job is only oversaturated in terms of the amount of demand that there is for it. It's not the majority of people. That's ridiculous and it wouldn't be possible because it's not a productive job.
Nigga the failure we have seen for people accepted into hero courses is Eternal sidekick
that is still working in the course
Everyone of Deku's middle school class will be either a low hero or sidekick
Then where do all the civilians populating the world and who are clearly visible in various parts of the story come from? Do they have a civilian factory?
They are either civilians OR heroes/sidekicks on break
There can still be civilians even if one profession is ridiculously over represented.
A profession being overrepresented doesn't mean that the majority of people are in that profession. Lawyers and chefs are professions that are oversaturated and they're not 80% of the population. A society needs other jobs to function. There's no way that every person with a quirk who takes an entrance exam lands at least a sidekick job.
>There's no way that every person with a quirk who takes an entrance exam lands at least a sidekick job.
In Deku's generation it is clearly a trend.
If this was a perfect world, we would have something like this but this is not a perfect world /
Yeah, again, there's trendy jobs in real life too. Doesn't mean everyone who aspires to them succeeds. Tons of people fail college entrance exams and tons of other people end up dropping out.
He is likable as it is.
Reminder
>thinks about winning
>only thinks about it
They're both lame nerds.
Make him actually suffer like Shinji does.
It's a really simple fix: have him get fucked over and suffer more.
You missed the thread, Toga stabbed and let Deku bleed to death and Bakugo won in the end
>Stop with the crying beta bullshit
>Get the fuck off bakugo's dick
That's all. He's alpha af in a fight, but an insufferable beta any time else
Many possibilities
1) Make him become a policeman and the whole manga is just him handling situations on the field better than heroes do despite having no quirk because most heroes are dumb hot headed attention whores. Also because he's better at quirk analysis, tactics, and strategy than them. Rivalry with Katsuki is kept of course, and goes further to become a hero/police rivalry engulfing all characters, it gets really ugly when it starts becoming an ideology war that gets in the way of catching villains
2) He receives a transferrable quirk but not One for All, something much weaker, and not from the best hero in Japan, he keeps winning fights thanks to sheer creativity with his shitty ass quirk and support items. All Might may still take a liking to him, tutor him, and make him his spiriual heir, but his quirk is hus own and not transferable
Ok but how am I supposed to self insert if he’s not the teenager with the strongest quirk on Earth?
Transferable is lame though.
How about a quirk he can't discover on its own?
Like a blue mage quirk that would require him to get attacked with a quirk before it can activate.
Getting acknowledged for his achievements by other heroes and gaineing confidence from it would fix most of it. He would also have to stop being Bakugo's battered housewife.
Also get the heroes out of high school. Keepinf a story in that is cancer.
Mineta should have been the main character.
>Liking xd perv characters
He should be killed off, he adds literally nothing but predictable one liners, any time he's on screen it's wasted animation and voice acting.
Deku stopped being an underdog after sports festival. You could also argue that he stopped being an underdog after he was give one the best quirks in the series.
His quirk is one of the most interesting ones.
He actually has to put thought into it instead of just punching/blasting someone.
>one of the most interesting ones
You have a severely low bar for what interesting is. And no he doesn't "actually have to put thought" he is seen time and time again aimlessly flailing balls and hoping it works.
>he adds literally nothing but predictable one liners
To be fair, that's the only thing that most characters add. His power is very unique, though. It would definitely make for cooler fights than "punch really hard". And if he was the main character there would probably be more character development for him, making him more well-rounded. There's plenty of manga that features a perverted brat as the main character and they can be interesting protagonists too.
That one welding dude is a superior version of grapefaggot
Mt. Lady should've been the main character, Mineta could be her sidekick.
a crybaby cannot be a hero, because that's a weakness that any competent villain would exploit
leaving aside for the moment the pollyanna absurdity of the entire concept of a hero
he needs to somehow lose badly as a result of being sentimental and caring about others, and gain a more realistic worldview that includes making sensible, completely non-emotional decisions, like letting someone die and not being destroyed by it
>He didn't allow that to tell him he couldn't be like all might
He literally did though, the only reason he ever got off his ass and started doing shit was because all might chose him.
>inb4 he saved bakugo
He sperged out and nearly got himself fucking killed. It wasn't a hero moment, it was the natural conclusion to an actually autists life. And wouldn't you know it the greatest hero saved him, like heroes do. But all might trusted Deku with his quark has got to be the most shortsighted decision a hero has ever made in this series.
So basically GS Mikami but with superheroes instead of exorcists. I'd be up for that.
Less crying.
Oh and it would be cool if he actually worked for his power. A powerless civ getting strong and surpassing those born with power would be a nice story. Too bad Kōhei only almost wrote that
just give him a touch of madness to balance out the puppy vibe he currently has. turn a typical heroic trait, selflessness, into his weakness. make him turn his life into a living hell for the sake of others and make him train obsessively to the point of scaring other students. make his social life suffer for it and maybe have a arc where he learns he has to back down from some challenges
He didn't even fucking train before he got his quirk. Without outside help he would have been nothing.
>pre-establish the fact that his dad is either dead or ran out on him and Inko, maybe make it part of why he wants to prove himself so badly as a hero
>no more battered housewife bullshit with Bakugo, he doesn't have to kick his ass or get revenge but the weird admiration thing he has for him has to go
>make him actually utilize his intel/strategies more or make him learn martial arts, just something to make him stand out more and be more admirable as a hard working character instead of relying on his quirk and the low amounts of training he does currently
Contrary to what a lot of the other replies say, I think his crying is a good quality to keep that makes him unique. He can still be a crybaby and be a tough and competent hero; you strip Deku of that and he becomes even more generic than he already is, his softness and empathy whether you like it or not is part of the very small amounts of qualities he has right now that set him apart from other shonen protagonists.
Less crying.
Even less Bakugo worship.
Retcon the whole series and have him start out with a weak quirk he made great through effort that also is complemented well by gadgets and muh cqc that way batfags shut the hell up.
People complaining about deku crying too much cry more than deku.
yeah
But we also shouldn't be the main characters of stories
