It's not just an mpv thing (although mpv's defaults have changed in the past couple years) it's a math thing. You can have
>blurry but smoother motion
>sharp but juttering motion
>soap opera garbage motion
Wherever you go you'll have to pick one so long as you have a 60hz display.

K-Lite Codec Pack with MPC-HC
Then setup Madvr as you want

Wow, I wonder if this is an MPC shill.

...

can't you use sharp and then interpolation so it's also smooth

Unironically this. I'll never not be amazed that it still works.

Vlc

RealPlayer

decent gpu: current MPC-HC fork+madvr
toaster: doesn't get better than MPV
linux: still MPV

I use MPC on my windows partition and MPV on my linux partition. I still don't understand the forced "video player war" that retards keep pushing. If you use VLC you should neck yourself though.

Attached: mpc gl.png (800x600, 72K)

that's it

PotPlayer

i don't get it, what is all this shit? since when is watching anime so complicated

how "decent" are we talking?

The only torrent alive for some show I'm watching is dual audio, and I'm a fucking brainlet that can't figure out how to switch MPC to automatically Japanese with English subtitles.

You can max out most of the upscaling settings on madvr with a 5 year old midrange gpu. Your fans might get obnoxiously loud but it's possible.

MPC because I can't live without muh GUI.
LAV splitter.

Does Madvr really make a noticeable difference? And why does MPV look so basic? Nothing there but a couple of shortcuts to choose subtitles and audio tracks.

KLite on a ThinkPad, any other answer is wrong

Because you modify it using the config file and various scripts. Scripts extend the player and give it a shit ton of features. Custom filmgrain filters, hover preview, customizable webm script that even allows you to only clip a limited segment of the screen, playlist overlay and a shit ton of other stuff.

MPV is trash pushed by FOSStards. They probably also unironically believe Linux is anything but a hobbyist OS.

The real question is, what's the best OS for watching anime is why is it Windows 10?

Attached: windows10-1903-doesnt-suck.jpg (1280x720, 107K)

This

MPV is the way to go if you're really autistic, but for normal fags and trannies VLC will get you pretty far

iamscum.wordpress.com/guides/videoplayback-guide/

I don't have a 60hz display.

Imagine having to read a guide and modify a text file to effectively use a fucking video player

Yeah imagine having to read to do stuff lol

I've been using it because for some reason the Commie release of 3-gatsu no Lion always causes MPC to crash near the end of an episode. But I was surprised to see it was so bare-boned in its "base form."
I didn't know that. I'm using the pre-compiled version that was on their site, can I go from there to apply the things you mentioned?

I have a 2080 and I still use mpv because MadVR is literal dogshit. Makes many DVD rips look like shit, tears screen on other resses at random, burns your hardware to you even suffer from audible vents despite running a full liquid cooling system
>j-just reduce the MadVR settings, b-bro!
Then there is no difference and therefore no reason to use it. MadVR is trash.

Simply go the temp mpv folder, make a folder called scripts and throw shit into it.
github.com/mpv-player/mpv/wiki/User-Scripts

There's are a lot of very useful scripts that skyrocket the player's utility to a level no other application can compete with.

Sounds like your setup is dogshit.

have sex.

I am sure it is, MPC-shill.

Works on my machine, maybe stop getting prebuilts retarded nvidiadrone.

Attached: 1523287761958.png (460x490, 232K)

I am sure it does, MPC-shill.

Just a wrapper for mpv

Cringe mpvkek.

A better question is what player works best on an android tablet. After trying several options, I find VLC works best on my Galaxy Note 10.1. However I sometimes have to use handbrake to convert the video to hardsubs with fast decoding in order to stream downloaded episodes over my LAN to the tablet. I've also tried BSPlayer which sometimes seems to work a little better but it handles the occasional slowdowns less gracefully than VLC. MX Player runs like shit.

I don't really watch from a tablet, but I'm pretty sure there's an android fork of mpv.

Not that guy but mpv runs like shit on my old nexus tablet

Use mpv, it runs on toasters. I've used both for years, there is no noticeable difference while watching, and any difference isn't something that's able to be put as better or worse, just different.

>rtx cards
Opinion discarded.

MPV works effectively out of the box. But you have the option to go beyond if you are not retarded.

>blurry
Try glasses.

>They probably also unironically believe Linux is anything but a hobbyist OS
It is. The only thing Linux can not do better than other operating systems is gaming (and that is quickly changing) and graphic design work.
MPV works perfectly OOTB and can be more powerful than MPC if your IQ is higher than room temperature. There are also players using libmpv (such as MPC-Qt) for people who are too lazy to edit one text file.

MPC-HC is dead. Use MPC-BE and then install madvr if you need to, nothing more needs to be done.

How the HELL do you stop the screen tearing during panning scenes? I read into it and apparently having a monitor with a framerate that matches the source will resolve the issue, but even my 144hz monitor has tearing, even after I manually set the fps to 24 or 25.

i hate all of you so god damn much

I'm reading this list and 80% of them seem useless
>jphonorifics
>Removing Japanese honorifics from subtitles on playback.
Who would even use this? Let alone all the weird shit that downloads subtitles from places that read like malware sites

I tried installing the "boss key" one but it didn't work, probably because the guy said it was only for win32

Is Madvr or the equivalents for MPV even worth it for 720p videos if my monitor is only 768p? What about downscaling?

Thanks. This was pretty useful.

I don't know either, ran into the same thing with madvr.

empty desktop. No wallpaper. What the fuck is that?

>MPC-HC is dead
It still gets updated with fixes and LAVfilters. If people think HC is bloated then MPC-BE would make them shit their pants with the amount of bloat it has.

I use MPV and I have no idea what you're talking about. It works just fine.

Well obviously most scripts are useless. The useful ones are very good however, e.g. webm script, custom "dynamic" filmgrain, preview on hover etc. It's a bunch of userscripts. You should expect most to be bloody terrible.

Still the king

>cscale=ewa_lanczossharp
>tscale=oversample
>video-sync=display-resample
>interpolation
>temporal-dither
>no-border

what is all this shit

This, mpv contrarian fags confuse me. It's like turbo autism on levels similar to those audio fetishists who obsess over tubes and rare metal cables.

If you're too fucking retarded to execute the most basic shit in terminal, just stick to apple products.

>implying you HAVE to do basic shit in terminal
Using the terminal is a choice, even in Linux. Whereas in Windows you don't even get that option because the Command Prompt is crap.
The guy you're replying to clearly hasn't used Linux in the last decade, if at all.

What if I know nothing about this shit? how do I set up the first one?

VLC unironically just werks perfectly fine now. Many Yea Forumsfags are just boomers who won't let the past go.

I've never understood the problem people have with VLC. It works perfectly fine.

Epic wojak you crossboarding retard

No one is saying VLC doesn't "work". It's just retarded to use when even vanilla MPCHC is better

Okay but why? Every time I ask this I never get an answer. Why is it better? Explain.

This. FSRCNNX is better than NGU and way faster. MadVR is slugish buggy proprietary crap.

What do you guy think of mpv.net

MPC HC + Latest LAV Filters + MADVR

KCP ftw

i don't really know, some people reccomend VLC. I use mpc with k-lite and some filters but I'm a lazy ass fuck.

>download mpv since its the hottest new /g/ meme
>Doesn't seem to have any options other than drag and drop file
>Can't even right click

Did I break it?

That's how mpv works. Just learn the key bindings or download mpv.net which is mpv with menus and shit for mouse users

MPV might not be perfect, but I'll always use it for the plugin that allows the quickest and most efficient WEBM plugin. I'm too retarded to use the guide for webms for retards.

You got memed. Mpv is a hobbyist video player for people who want to autistically tweak a text file than watch cartoons.

Anyone ever used this?

Dilate.

Tried MPV and it was literally the least intuitive video player i’ve ever used. Is there a quality GUI version or should I stick with MPC-HC?

MPV.net, MPV-Qt, MPV Made Easy.

Is the general opinion that it’s actually better quality wise than Mad VR + MPC-HC, or is it just FOSS/must run on linux/must run on a potato autism? All I care about is quality.

>or is it just FOSS/must run on linux/must run on a potato autism
All of the above. Don't forget your 1366x768 x220 to watch it on

Attached: 1559766029266.jpg (3152x4307, 2.53M)

I thought this was /g/,
VLC if you're subhuman or if you use windows, though I don't know if it still has the rendering problem.
For linux mpv
and .config/mpv/mpv.conf
scale=ewa_lanczossharp
cscale=ewa_lanczossharp
screenshot-directory=~/Pictures/mpv
screenshot-template="%F%p%n"
to have screenshots in its directory and with the filename, and scaling if you use lower resolutions. Everything else is a meme
do you need gpu-hq for hardware accel or just vulkan? my shitbox is pre vulkan intel
and fuck disable video sync, it makes everything blurry as fuck in between frames

MPC-HC + MadVR + xysubfilter

Attached: madvrvsmpv.jpg (1920x2160, 1.64M)

they both look the same autist

MadVR is actually better quality wise for anime because it has certain specific, exclusive features which mpv lacks, features which benefit anime specifically and to a great degree.

>madvr
>mpc
>mpv
>vlc

Winamp

Yikes

I don't think there is any difference. MPV just has better performance on potato hardware.

Anyone who uses MadVR isn't an anime fan to begin with
They should stay on reddit with their altered experiences.

Get a load of this guy. I bet he doesn't even equalize his audio. I bet his penis is so small.

Attached: 1534802229978.jpg (464x464, 156K)

Listen I'm too lazy to even pretend to want to learn to code, but I'm also never going back to shit like VLC. Is there anything that's super easy that I can do get improvements other thanI'm using it on Windows if that matters.

Any program that requires you to compile it or find a version to download on Github is retarded. MPC never asked for any of that.

>learn to code
>just copypasting
you're braindead retarded if you can't just put that in your config

This. I see zero reason to change.

I know how to put it into the config. In fact I already did it the first day I had mpv.

It's just I wonder if there's other cool stuff and/or improvements that are just as easy.

IIRC someone posted a script(?) that allowed mpv to automatically create webms. Anyone have that?

There are 2 well-known windows builds on mpv's website, I don't know wtf you are talking about.

MPC with KCP

>Command Prompt is crap
That's why you use PowerShell.

>his OS doesn't have a package manager

Holy shit, such a bad post.
Nobody forces you to use those user submitted scripts - writing your own is incredibly easy.
And I am using the 'boss key' on Linux.

What's wrong with using softsubs on mobile VLC?

Wrong
VLC is fine, it got really good over time. MPC crap doesn't even compare. There's just no reason to use it over mpv.

>first response not notepad

I'd rather configure a text file all day than be a pathetic anti-mpv shill on imageboards.

Only a person who's never used a proper shell could think PowerShell is anything other than a steaming pile of shit. In only looks good in comparison to how hilariously bad windows command prompt is.

it just works.

I can't believe there was a time when people sucked off the fansub cartel for finding a way to make typesetting bloated to the point of making a top end PC shit itself during certain scenes.

MX player works well if you have the proper custom codec pack for your cpu.

Retards finding the most complicated possible method for video playback when simple to use alternatives are readily available, and acting like that is something to take pride in.

I see the difference, but it's very much minor, so minor in fact that most people wouldn't notice it at all

Attached: 1551038766004.jpg (550x550, 90K)

github.com/classicjazz/mpv-config
If you have a video card, uncomment the Vulkan bits and comment out the Open GL bits

github.com/mpv-player/mpv/wiki/User-Script
Go crazy. I use the webm script, thumbnail generator, auto-profiles, subtitle downloader, youtube quality changer and other stuff I'm probably forgetting.

Obviously no one forces me, what's the point of saying that? I was replying to the guy saying the userscripts elevated mpv to "unparalleled levels" or whatever. Most of them are fluff

And yeah the boss key thing says it's for linux and win32.

Whoops. Fucked up the link. github.com/mpv-player/mpv/wiki/User-Scripts

Just because you don't think you'll ever use them doesn't make them uselessness for everyone. Point is, mpv is infinitely customizable which makes it much better than other players.

Like the other user said, since mpv is extremely lightweight, it's much more efficient. As for actual quality:
artoriuz.github.io/mpv_upscaling.html
madVR's best is NGU. mpv's best is FSRCNNX.

Meant for

>can't use hotkeys to fullscreen on a different monitor
>fs-screen=1 doesn't work in input
It's shit

>Vulkan
Is it better?

You think files go off or something?

The top one looks like plastic shit. Congratulations, you ruined the source with eye-cancer filters.

>high quality rendering
>hwdec=auto
mpv.io/manual/master/#options-hwdec
>Quality reduction with hardware decoding
>In general, it's very strongly advised to avoid hardware decoding

Attached: [CommieRaws] Star☆Twinkle Precure - 15 [2BC7654E]_00-15-50_1561438558.jpg (1280x720, 192K)

>imagine being this much of an autist that you invest hundreads of hours researching how to make some autist setup work and then proceed to shill it on Yea Forums, instead of not and watching anime

Is there a more modern MPC-HC setup guide or are old guides still just as reliable today?

You say that as if configuring MPC doesn't also require tweaking to get the highest quality possible on your machine. Both players work out of the box. Any argument that goes "it's autistic" is moot.

Why is VLC bad?

I use KCP and it just werks

>looks kinda blurry
Windows issue

>bottom is a single lightweight program that doesn't need installing
>top one is a bloated program installed upon a bloated program with trash performance
yikes

Put this into playback or on splitter config if you have one

Attached: here you go brainlet.png (278x134, 3K)

So I guess everyone who watched anime since 10bit became a thing isn't a fan then.

when did I mention MPC?
because it's popular, that's it
