Hanging in there?
Scanlation Thread
Will start TS-ing Strike Witches - Kimi to Tsunagaru Sora Ch. 1 later today
No, not really.
Anybody got that Mangline app working yet?
Waiting for redraws
The current chapter I'm working on is a real pain, I can't wait to be done with it.
I pretty much already finished the next chapter while procrastinating this one.
Is the catalog frozen for anyone else?
Hey, the logo's updated!
How do I get a japanese phone number? It's for a code I need.
I know it had a shitty ending but could someone finish scanlating hoshino me o tsubutte? I get really autistic about not being able to read a manga to the end.
UH, ALL THE IMAGES BEHIND TEXT OR REDRAWS AS I LIKE TO CALL THEM, DISAPPEAR OUT OF MANGA BECAUSE IT'S FOR WORD BALLOONS ONLY, UNDERSTAND, CAUSE IF YOU DON'T I'LL MAKE MANGA TEXTLESS AGAIN!!!
>manga gets shit ending
>it gets dropped because of it
Every time
Just eraser tool bro lol
VPN and Register.
Scanlations for Yumekui Merry are basically dead, even the scanlator's site (dkthias.com) is now down. Any chance of this being picked up by somebody?
I wish groups didn't pull that shit. I wish they had more respect towards their work. It feels awful when they drop it just because the ending was bad. I want to experience the bad ending myself instead of reading some spoilers and not getting the whole picture.
>that faggot leecher reader that announces in the comments that they are dropping the series
Why do they do this?
some post it on twitter or facebook
some people just like to express their oppinion there's not much you can do to stop it short of ignore idiots
people on here can havve 800 post threads where literally nothing meaningful is said
What's the point of letting people who don't give a shit know that you are dropping the series, especially if you're not the scanlator?
because people are retards.
sometimes it's a statement about protest at the turn a series might have taken do you recall the gal rape/cleaning debacle?
also a lot of people a narcissists
fundamentally you don't translate manga for other people you translate for your own reasons.
Why are proofreaders always such a pain in the fucking ass? Every team i've been in that had one has been a fucking hot mess due to the retard either taking too much damn time to just read 4 lines or just straight up changing his mind after 100 chapters of saying something one way just because, i hate how fucking entitled they feel, as if they were the only important part of the team
The only good scanlation team is either one guy alone or 2 people with polar opposite jobs (i.e. Translator + Redrawer)
What about the typesetter?
>fundamentally you don't translate manga for other people you translate for your own reasons.
You want people to talk about your manga as the minimum reason. What fucking reason is there to wasting your time scanlating if not for that, assuming you're not getting paid?
>sometimes it's a statement about protest at the turn a series might have taken do you recall the gal rape/cleaning debacle?
What does the scanlator have to do with this though? Go talk to the mangaka, the scanlator can't change the story.
as a former PR
sorry
are you being deliberately obtuse and ignoring that people are very often stupid and lazy? especially for some series?
>that faggot reader that dares express his opinion on the series in the comments
Stunning levels of entitlement.
>expresses (((his opinion)))
>calls the series shit for something that never happened
My proofreader is invaluable, even if he delays things by a few days.
It probably helps that he also knows Japanese.
His opinion is jewish? Is that actually what you're trying to say?
Two more months until Comiket. What are your preparations like?
How hard is it to get loli doujins through customs for 'murrica? Could you just get through by putting it in your computer bag or something?
Why are scanlators burning out lately?
Which photoshop version do I pirate
How did I do it
I might be a moron
They're so dry from the heat that it doesn't take much.
All the proofreaders I worked with were pretty chill and helped out a lot at times. Sucks that you have such a hateboner for them that you have to post this in every scanlation thread.
Someone on a previous thread not too long recommended a shaky/trembling font for when a character is scared. I think it was called Kooky something but I can't find the exact name of it. Anyone knows which one I'm talking about?
Komika Boo?
That's exactly it. Thank you user.
I used ccmaker to get photoshop cc 2018
I do not know if this is the best way or if I'm now part of a botnet, but it worked for me
You need a Japanese phone number to get access to the app
Because you don't pay us enough attention
How popular is your series /scan/? How many views does the newest chapter that's been out for a week on Mangadex have?
is Photoshop CC 2020 out yet?
how hard is it to rip from renta (en)?
>Which photoshop version do I pirate
In CC 2015.5 or newer you can save favorite fonts and many other useful functions. CA gets better every version, so the latest would be great. I use CC2018.
>How did I do it
CGpeers or any other decent tracker.
>I might be a moron
At least you're aware.
GIMP2.9
I still use CS3. I don't think it matters.
Is there a public ripper for manga-one.com or do I have to use nox+fiddler?
seconded would like to read but not if it is permanently abandoned
I haven’t even started
I don't think there's one. If you already know how to use the two programs you posted just go ahead and write something to get the files automatically. It's not like they're encrypted or anything.
I don't like any version after 2.6, or I wouldn't have this problem
Yeah I am, although I could use help with typesetting either Mako-san to Hachisuka-kun. or Sentou Hakai Gakuen Dangerous.
I've gotten more behind on these series than I'd like so I can definitely use some help. I can be contacted at [email protected] if anyone is interested.
what are your issues that changed? I've only used it since 2.8
I'm just being lazy, but I'll write a script eventually.
Are scanlators autistic?
Yes, it's a job requirement.
Just might be the heat + not having AC. Been lazing around for the past couple days doing nothing.Promised I'd deliver in a couple days now, but still can't find the motivation to start working on it.
>scanlators are literally burning out
Holy fuck so much this. Proofreaders and Typesetters are the most entitled bunch while being useless.
How are typesetters useless? Why don't the translators also typeset if they're useless?
>useless
depends on how esl the translator is
TS needs good judgement but most competent editors should be able to do it at a standard
>tfw the typesetter is the one driving the project
You can become one of the best TS in an afternoon. You need PR only when the TL is an ESL.
Then why are there so many TL who refuse to typeset?
Cause it's boring and time consuming.
>bros i can be great at TS in an afternoon, honest! n-not making an excuse or anything!
Whats the most recent thing you've scanned?
If TS doesn't require you to use more than one type of font, adding it to all sfx and redraw any parts that were erased, I'd imagine it to be a breeze.
Also I'd imagine a scenario where the text couldn't fit in the bubble and you'd decide to paraphrase "Oh my god!" to "Yikes!" just to make it readable. You'd need the authority to do that kind of editing, which TS don't usually have.
>Another witch user
For you
It's a little difficult to explain given the fact that each time I've tried to switch I've barely used it, but I'll give it a shot. There's plenty of things that I simply don't like such as the export changes, or the new hotkeys interfering with the ways I've used the old ones (looking at you CTRL+mouse3 zoom), or the brush changes, but I could adapt to those things if necessary. But there's something I absolute cannot fucking tolerate. Now, I'm not a software guy so I don't know the exact terminology, but they replaced something about the way the UI is handled and it's fucking horrendous. Not the UI itself, but the code behind it. Maybe it's just the way it comes out on windows, but it's terribly slow and unresponsive, uses up shitloads more resources, and manifests at its worst with the brush preview which in addition to being ugly and unclear kinda like, massively lags behind your cursor. Like it's only showing at 20hz or something.
>You'd need the authority to do that kind of editing, which TS don't usually have.
How often do TS have control over the project?
What he says is kinda bullshit cause TSs are pretty much the end be all in a way. They're the ones who actually have control of what appears on the page, so it can either be as good as your script is (talking in the pure sense, if he's an PR/TLC, it's another story), or as shit as he wants it to be, with all the shity memes and reaction notes in the margins.
So is TS a useless meme role that anybody can do but doesn't want to because reasons or a role that has too much power? I'm getting all sorts of answers here
Any notable ones?
The ones on this thread and the last one
Over 7,000
fourth party here, it depends on the team dynamics
if everyone gets along the TS has quite a bit of power
if the TL is just shipping of scripts to people who don't even know either language (looking at you LHScans) then it's a much different story.
Middle ground where is, would be not something i'm familiar with.
It really is just boring and time-consuming.
I would rather spend ten hours translating than two hours typesetting.
What's a good font to use when a character is in a berserk rage and is yelling that they want to kill their sworn enemy?
not that user and I think typesetters are important, but the fact is that though it's a simple job in itself it's also time consuming
What's the usual ratio for amount of time spent by a translator vs. amount of time spent by a typesetter anyways? Like 1 hour of translating = 5 hours of typesetting?
I'm a slow translator since I obsessively go over the lines to make sure they're all phrased the best way possible.
My most popular series is an isekai that gets like 30k views per chapter, the second one is a lewd series that I need to update because I've been releasing like 1 chapter per month.
Waiting for the ripper user to appear.
Did you ever submit complaints to the forums, having used it on linux I can't say I've noticed these issues but as I was naive to 2.8 that would be expected.
Depends on the dialogue difficulties.
Since I finished both completed series I was working on and there's a month before the next volume of the ongoing project, I've been taking a month long break from scanlating. Unfortunately, I can feel the sweet seduction of not doing any work corrupting my soul. Help me.
JUst curious, what series were they?
Futari no Jikan and 7-Jikanme no Note.
Should I translate Ojichan as Mister?
Also, does it matter whether I use all-caps or not?
Oh ok, pretty cool stuff. And I get you, I have way too many projects to handle right, luckily some of them are almost at their endpoint though.
Oops, I meant “ojisan”
bit of a random one but tokkou maid thunder is quite a favourite of mine, only 5 translated chapters not everyone's cup of tea though
mangaupdates.com
a.uguu.se
this is only a temporary 24 hour link to vol 1
It's dumb but you might enjoy the read
got the rest of the raws somewhere
Yenoh, Levi Rebrushed, I Want My TTR!, or Mouth Breather.
did you ever contact Onio?
Pathetic.
on a similar note, does anyone have any suggestions for some cutesy fonts?
I asked in the previous thread but the answer I got didn't really help
TS is an extremely important role that anybody with a modest amount of free time can do. The only time the position will have any power, though, is if the TL is a lazy fuck who just sends in the script and fucks off and there's no QC. Either of those roles should be able to exercise full veto power on whatever the TS does.
>start translating a perverted series
>put stupid comments like pic related in every chapter like you didn't see it coming
What the fuck is wrong with people.
Cheri, laCartoonerie.
thanks a lot, here's a (You)
Is it really veto power if the TS willingly let the TL change the script, since the TL actually knows Japanese?
I wish translators did this instead of "Page 04 the box on the second panel off on the left: "Gyaaah!""
Out of curiosity, how many fonts do people use? I've personally downloaded over 100 different fonts with about 15 of them being in semi-regular use and about 5-6 of those being used every chapter.
thousands possibly millions exist
helpful to keep it down to a handful or two
anyone got the anonblack guides?
>discord link
you know exactly what's wrong
Anyone want to translate this?
twitter.com
A choose-your-own-advanture manga based on Twitter poll.
It's still ongoing so I thought it would be fun to get Yea Forums involved.
Like 4k
I go through a series I want to pick up first and collect samples of all the different fonts used in it so I can get a sense of how many I'll need. It usually ends up being 20 or less, but my longest project so far has used 26 different fonts and those include variations between normal/bold/etc.
Oh, you indeed are.
Depends on the series but there most I currently use is like four
>Scratchy
>Big
>Handwritten
>Normal dialogue
With maybe some PS modification to those fonts if it really needs it
will yokohama kaidashi kikou ever get a full, proper release without the comic sans and potato scan volumes
>Should I translate Ojichan as Mister?
Depends on the context, but it usually works fine as a translation.
>don't even get a total of one comment per every two pages for a wordy ass chapter you translate and edit to a mirror finish
drop time
What do you do if you accept a project you realize that is beyond your talents because the redrawing is incredibly difficult and annoying?
take an hour and learn how to use the clone tool better
i dropped a series without saying anything, best decision of my life, now i have the time to actually read and get better at japanese
Does using clone tool help me get better at redrawing stuff with gradient backgrounds?
well grammar nazis generally suck but I have a good one, apparently
Yes, zoom in and learn how to clone the gradient accurately (match up the pixel patterns) so it doesn't look shit.
>Having proofreaders
>Reiwa ichinen
Just don't have an seamonkey esl as a translator and you don't need one.
better than putting them literally on the page
Stop doing that. It's never funny, jesus
You quit, duh
It would could be fun if we raid it with troll vot-
>100k votes
How is this so popular holy shit.
What if I am that translator?
ook eek lah
What series?
What's the current situation with that Solo Leveling thing?
>chapter 0 translated by a Korean with kinda ropey English
>chapter 1 translated by an Yea Forumsnon
>chapter 2 translated by some established group, but it got pulled after half a day
>chapter 75 translated by an user I think is different from the chapter 1 Yea Forumsnon
>chapter 76 translated by another Korean with better English than the chapter 0 one
I think the chapter 1 user came from here, so anyone know?
nobody cares
>gookshit
lmao
>I think the chapter 1 user came from here, so anyone know?
I guess they gave up because laziness.
I guess its still in a bit of a limbo after the jaimini spergout. It's so popular that some proper group is bound to pick it up soon.
I've been trying to typeset with Krita lately, with the exception of font sizing occasionally being completely broken it's actually really nice.
Proofreader spotted, it's useless, i won't fall for your lies
That might partially be it, but I did message the uploader for chapter 1 and he told me the translator moved on to a different project due to it seemingly like all these poorly coordinated groups were all jumping in to work on the series. For example chapter 0 Korean had already finished his chapter 75 translation, but a different person ended up uploading their own version first.
That being said, he told me that chapter 0 Korean was very determined to keep going and was willing to work with people who wanted to continue with the chapters.
>chapter 2 translated by some established group, but it got pulled after half a day
Chapter 1 uploader told me about this. He said that what happened was a member of the group decided they'd work on the series, but didn't run it by the group leader first. When the group leader noticed what happened he (or she, not sure who it is) pulled the chapter, since he wanted nothing to do with the drama going on around Solo Leveling.
Is madokami still the go to place to get hi res raw tankoubon?
1 font nowadays, before 5ish per chapter. None of the readers cares either way which makes sense.
As long as the chapters keep coming everything is fine, maybe the people who worked on chapter 2 could make a separate group and invite the user who did chapter 0.
Which group was it that did chapter 2, anyway?
Valhalla Scanlation
mangadex.org
>relatively popular weekly manga is about to get anime adaptation
>scanlated monthly
>nobody wants to snipe them
imagine being a fan of this manga.
I try to use as few as possible, just because I think it makes the dialogue too busy to have all these different fonts going on.
Normal Dialogue
Sound Effects
Chapter Titles and other cover text
Handwritten Text
Scratchy for a character with a distorted-sounding voice
And I'm trying to decide between Levi Rebrushed and I Want My TTR! for when the eventual shouting match happens between sworn enemies.
They get regular updates and the anime is unlikely to adapt more than 46 chapters anyway. I'm sure they're fine.
why dont u try sniping them lmao u probably dont even know nihongo
Don't worry! He can just machine translate it and reword it so that no one will notice!
Because I'm not a fan.
>finally get a comment
>it's a faggot just thanking you for the translation
Be sure to thank your scanlator Yea Forums!
My chapters get thousands of views and I usually get few few comments actually talking about the chapter.
Hopefully the comments will pick up when the story starts picking up with the next arc that seems to pick starting.
They forbade raw uploads years ago.
There is no such place because all sites host exactly the same raws.
Has anyone already gotten their hands on the scans of the newest big gangan?
Someone should set up a community where people will pool money/mine bitcoin/whatever to buy all magazines as they come out.
The comic-days sub covers most of the good ones already and I bet some user already have it. It's $10 a month I think.
If you need mags, you need but ask
