Toei announced on Monday that it will screen the first 10 minutes and 40 seconds of Studio Khara's new Evangelion film, Shin Evangelion Gekijō-ban :||, on July 6.
The Japan Expo event in Paris will screen the video, titled "Shin Evangelion Gekijōban AVANT 1 (Beginning 10 Minutes 40 Seconds 00 Frame) 0706 Version" at a "Yoko Takahashi x Evangelion Stage" presentation. The video is the introduction scene to the film before the title card.
The video will also screen at Anime Expo in Los Angeles and in Shanghai, as well as in various places inside Japan, on July 6. Toei also stated the video will screen simultaneously worldwide, but did not state where it will be available outside of those cities and events, or if those events will be the only places that will screen the video.

Originally, Rebuild would have been much more like 1.0 - three 90 minute movies that just recapped the original series story with some minor tweaks, and half of the third movie would have been a new alternate ending.
The timeframe they planned to release them on made sense when they were going to make maybe one hour of newly animated material for the entire trilogy.
But 1.0 exceeded beyond their expectations so they dropped he idea of recap movies and turned 2.0 in an entirely new thing. There was no pre-planning for it *or* for what would happen after it.
The CG is the only complaint against 3.33 that I really agree with. The descent to Central Dogma and pans around the Wunder's bridge looked like dogshit.

1.0 was good. Even if it was a shot for shot recap, it was pretty much a rather well liked show, with new and improved graphics and absolutely epic music fitting the battle scenes. Little details, suggested that things my go different now.
2.0 actually went in different direction. It gave Shinji agenda. He learned from his failure to save Asuka and it made him fight for something he believed in - Not letting it happen to another friend of his. Some loved it, some hated it I loved it. Shinji finally had a REASON and DESIRE to act, outside of just being there.
Then 3.0 came and it was Anno regressing and crawling back to mother's womb (Funny. Evageeks loves to describe Shinji saving Rei as this), and doing the exact same thing he did with the ending of a series and EoE - Pseudophilosophical mumbling, with pretentious life lessons that benefit no one, Kaworu dying and Shinji being reduced to a helpless puppet. He just changed the dressing slightly.
I'm pretty sure that 4.0 will be about Shinji's lesson sinking in. How he is useless and stupid unless someone smart is holding his leash and telling him to what to do and how to act. WHO is the proper master at the moment, changes depending on Anno's mood swings.

It puts you in a situation where you don't know what's happening at all. This never happened in 1 or 2 which is why they were just meh. The original also constantly put the viewer into unknowing positions and it eventually provided answers for such things. The problem with the movies is that it's been years and we haven't gotten answers, because you either watched it weekly or at your own pace after it aired. Whether 3.33 and rebuild as a whole is good or not can only be said after seeing the final. I think being stuck in a position where you don't know what's happening indefinitely is a big reason people have a problem with 3.33.

Or maybe it's because absofuckinglutely nothing happens, 3.33 is just setup for the next movie, all the interesting shit happens off-screen, characters act like retards, most characterization goes out the window and everything pretty much goes back to square one.
No, that isn't the problem. The problem is what we see the characters do is so incredibly stupid it's obvious it's the plot guiding them. Like Misato can claim Shinji is dangerous and guilty for starting 3rd impact all she wants, but the way she treated him she was begging for him to switch sides or have him snap and cause the very thing she feared all over again.
Even if Kaworu really wanted to take Shinji's burdens onto him and carry the explosive collar when he could have just disposed of it, there's absolutely no reason why Shinji would want Kaworu to be in danger, there's no reason for Shinji to be following Kaworu's every word when it came to obtaining the two spears except for the last 5 minutes when he changed his mind, nor there is any reason for Asuka and Mari to attack first without asking questions of what the hell Shinji was trying to do other than plot convenience.
I could go on and on, but I believe i've made the point clear. Whatever way anno choses to end it, it's already wasted because the path there is nonsensical.
2.0 absolutely fucked the characterization up, maybe they realized it so the drama had to come from somewhere else and the result was the absolutely convoluted shitfest that is 3.0.
It's like they took only the aesthetics, scientific mumbojumbo and mystery boxes of the series (which I think always were its most shallow elements), bumped these elements up to eleven and forgot about everything else.
Misato has spent more than a decade wearing the guilty of pushing Shinji to do what he did. Ritsuko and Asuka both needle her over it at various points.
It's not meant to be a good decision. She's making a major mistake but she's blinded towards doing what could have averted bad shit.

It's really not hard to get.
1.0 is a hard remake.
2.0 was written with a positive outlook on the series, as Anno was in a good headspace at the time, I think it's been said. Characters have normalized personalities, their problems are downgraded to manageable issues (possibly because his perspective at the time made it easier to believe these could be managed), he even pulled on some more mainstream mecha stylings to build the action scenes, and made Shinji's character have hope because he could more easily see that being real.
3.0 was made while Anno was in a relapsed state, and the series relapsed with him. The somewhat optimistic, somewhat fearful ending of 2 became a worst case Near-Third Impact, with the entire world affected, and everyone hating Shinji because of his selfish action. That's pretty typical of a depressed person, and I can see that in 3.0, I can't say the result is a strong story, but I can understand how that happened. Anno conveyed self-hatred, guilt that can come from actions driven by desire, belief that the people who tolerate you will one day drop a mask and reveal that they see you as the failure you see yourself, and the dream of someone who will accept you completely, even as your self destruction continues to drive others away. The biggest signs for this interpretation come from the near obvious retcon of 2's ending that leads into 3. In 2, Near-Third Impact was absolutely a localized event to at worst, a region of Japan, at best, Neo-Tokyo 3. And Rei was unambiguously saved at the end of 2 as well. At the very least, her soul was saved, but seeing as how Shinji quite literally pulled her out within the setting of his cockpit, not just the Adam blood form, and it's been established that a soul can manifest from LCL as a person with the want to live, she should be able to return. The only reason what we saw would become 3.0 is if Anno's depression manifested so strongly, he felt the need to disregard himself at his more optimistic.
I'm not expecting her to coddle him, or admit he wasn't at fault because he had no idea of what he was doing, but at the very least I would expect her to keep him in isolation, get answers from him and answer his questions to gradually bring him up to speed while keeping him in contact with somebody he doesn't know rather than wake him up, parade him across the ship, start making accusations and let everybody who knew him confront him.
I think it's still pretty cool and would never have Eva without it, but I feel a lot of it was really made on the go. I always preferred having it looming in the background because most of the actual lore and explanations were pretty underwhelming and kind of retcon-y to me.
I feel this problem is amplified in the Rebuilds because they focus too much on those elements without having a good cornerstone.
