When did isekai become so popular? I know Dog Days was the OG isekai, but then I think it was put on hiatus (Dog Days sequels aside) until maybe 2016?

>I know Dog Days was the OG isekai
I don't think they called them that back then but series that could be considered Isekai have been around a lot longer than that. There was stuff like Rayearth and Fushigi Yuugi among others in the 90's and there is probably even stuff that predates that.

The term isekai didn't exist? That makes 2011 anime feel kind of old.

They used a different term for shows like that back in the the day. Rather than "another world anime" it was more like "portal anime" or something else I can't quite remember.

This is just what I recall from someone reposting an old usenet post here ages ago.

>I know Dog Days was the OG isekai
What the fuck made you even think this.

Because it's the oldest one I know of?

It aired in 2011. There have been isekai anime in the 2000s, 90s, and the concept dates back into old fiction. What I'm wondering is what gave you the confidence to even say that sentence to the point of using the term OG. It is in no manner or form close to it and literally nobody brings it up when discussing the rise of Isekai.

If you're wondering what actually jumpstarted the isekai boom, it was the genre taking over an amateur Japanese writing site called Narou. The trend starter is Mushoku Tensei along with some other infamous series including Slime and Shield Hero.

>tfw Mushoku Tensei is finally getting an anime
Honestly, I don't even know how they'll do it without destroying the pacing.

>OG isekai

it will suck guaranteed

At least it will finally end Mushoku Tensei worship.

I barely see it mentioned nowadays and every time it gets brought up, like a dozen people bring up their critique of why they didn't like it.

I still frequently see it hailed as the best modern isekai.

I don't know if I'd say it's the best, but I definitely think it's one of the few with good world building and actually does the aging aspect well instead of just being a kid for a few chapters and then time skipping to the teenage years.

To add on, I also think it doesn't drag the aging on too long either, like Death Mage

Its what I read before any other isekai so while it is very flawed I found that no other novel gave me the rollercoaster of emotions like it did when I was a young lad desperate for some escapism.

WTF

Shinku should have fucked Leo.

fuck kill marry dog cat and coon
fuck cat, marry dog, kill coon

The fact they didn't do proper fan service with nipples will always be the reason I don't judge this series highly.
A man can't live off ass and cleavage alone.

Zero no Tsukaima, I think

probably because of the succes of SAO
