The only reason I still read it is because of how much i've put into it. If it got a reset i'd stop reading, and I imagine most long-term fans in Japan are the same.

That hasn't stopped people from getting into similarly large series.

The thing is, as much as novel readers knock on the anime, it's a perfectly good entry into the series for someone new and curious. When you end up liking something a lot you'll always want more, so if someone likes the anime there's a high chance they'll dedicate themselves to reading the novels, at the very least continuing with NT.

I can't imagine there are many, if any, Western fans who got into the LN without watching the anime first.
