The strongest part of Hunter x Hunter is the diverse cast of characters that reside in its world. These characters can perfectly complement each other, or at other times perfectly contrast each other. The essence of life itself has been breathed into each and every individual as if they are real people that could inhabit the tangible world. Each character has their own unique personality and perception of the world around them, which contributes to their personal philosophy, ultimately deciding the role they assume within the world.
Moral ambiguity is a huge part of the world of Hunter x Hunter. There is no good vs. evil within the narrative. There are only subjective goods versus subjective evils. You will find yourself cheering for Gon wholeheartedly at the beginning, perceiving him as the quintessence of good, whereas in reality, he is a selfish young teen who is completely ignorant to the world around him. Instead of adapting to the harsh world around him like the other members of the cast, he shrouds himself in his own innocence and sanguine nature. The collapse of this results in the climax of a phenomenal coming of age story, and possibly the greatest scene in anime history. But to understand what I mean by this, you'd have to watch the anime.
Despite Gon receiving incredibly character development and depth, I could say the same for every member of the main cast. Five characters in particular (Meruem, Hisoka, Chrollo, Kurapika, Killua) receive even more insight into their characters than the protagonist and are arguably more interesting. Despite each character having a defined personality, the motives and philosophies of each character are dynamic rather than stagnant. Round characters compose the world of Hunter x Hunter, with very few flat individuals in sight.

Hunter x Hunter lost a lot of potential and arcs by going to many hiatuses and releasing only 10 chapters a year.
Togashi is 52. He has maybe 5-7 years left to write. To put his age into perspective, One Piece's Oda is only 43 and already needs a break every 4-5 chapters without back problems. Akira toriyama is 63 and was physically done with manga even before he reached 60, and he never had the same back problems as Togashi.

Definitely the GOAT. One thing that I really appreciate is that Togashi can plan out characters and work them out in the general storyline so much in advance so that he can introduce characters early and only have them being relevant in much later episodes or even different arcs (e.g. Kite and his love for animals in the first few episodes on 99, or Hisoka & Nen, the Chairman).
He isn't also afraid to bench out MC's at will which is also a really nice touch which gives the whole show feel much more rounded and not feel like a stale OP episode.

What you're gushing about is the story togashi wrote, nothing to do with the quality of the anime.
2011's existence is literally a cinematic sin. Bland storyboards, awfully placed camera angles, dull color schemes, horrific pacing, no sense of capturing a specific mood. It's a safe and bland attempt to reproduce the manga without any vision or soul.

I don't know if I want to call this a good anime.
Sure the execution was excellent but I find it hard to relate with the characters since the most of them are cold booded murderers (yes including Gon) and/or psychopaths.
The morals were definetly skewed here. So did I enjoyed it? Well partially I did but there were parts I was raging because of the message I felt was tried to convey there.
It's a mixed bag I guess.

It's an Anime the majority of people will surely enjoy because it's a battle shounen with no fillers, shitty animation or alot of episodes where barely anything interesting happens (like one piece)
The characters are likable and gon friendship with killua is wholesome. Unlike most hxh fans think i don't find it an extremely genius story with strong plot at all (I find Naruto and one piece to have more unique story despite their flaws).
Overall it's a good adventure anime any one can enjoy

It doesn't misrepresent 99 nor does it even criticize it all that much, it explains the strength of both adaptations and then he explains his personal reasons as to why he likes 2011 one more. You can still hold the opinion that 99 is better who's to tell you what you like, but when you make claims that 2011 has "horrific pacing, no sense of capturing a specific mood." when 99 is worse at adapting both those things is pretty farcical.

Why doesn't Togashi just switch to LN? Have could still illustrate the more hard hitting moments, but also get more of the story out with each volume. That way he could do more with the time he has left. Right now he has only 2 arcs left in him, the Kurapika arc and the Gyro/final/DC arc.
