2003 vs brotherhood is like the definition of soul vs soulless
>No Father
Dante will never compare to Father.
It's pretty much the only case that comes to mind when I think about anime going ahead of manga that turned out for better.
>so many 2003 bros
I liked brotherhood, but 2003 and its bittersweet ending fits the tone of the series more overall. Brotherhood/manga's happy go lucky ending doesn't fit the overarching themes of sacrifice, sorrow and equivalent exchange.
my bitch ass always tears up listening to this

I gave Brotherhood like 6 different attempts to catch my interest but I've never been able to understand what people like so much about it. It seems so much more childish and simplistic in it's delivery and handling of characters vs the 03 adaptation. Plus shit got really gay and magical as things went on to the point of bordering on TTGL level of ridiculousness which really felt like a betrayal of the overall tone and message of the series. I'll never understand the blind "It's true to the manga so it's better!" mentality- being faithful to dogshit isn't necessarily anything to be proud of.

words of truth!
I just finished FMAB yesterday. I agree.
No. I watched 2003 first and remember it far, far less than Brotherhood even after watching them back-to-back.
It's so weird how many characters survive in the manga that were killed in the anime. Izumi and Scar most notably
The 2003 anime had very different character focus than the manga did, outside the core of main characters. Lust was never an important character in the manga, but the 2003 anime built her up into one. Conversely the 2003 anime didn't really have any interest in Scar as a character and just used him as an antagonist, where as a great deal of time was spent in the manga developing him and putting him through an arc.
Because that’s life and war
FMA 2003 is the superior series up until Hughes' death. Despite having a few filler episodes here and there, it's overall design and story pacing is the best among both shows and the manga, particularly around the development of Hughes.
Hughes is disposed of by chapter 15 in the manga and episode 10 in Brotherhood. In comparison, Hughes' death is FMA03 isn't until episode 25 and is the pivotal turning point of the show. Hughes is given considerably more screentime and the build-up is given considerably more narrative weight. After this episode, however, the FMA03 veers off into Anime Original Content and never really recovers. It does give Greed 1 more development compared to his Brotherhood counterpart, but sadly its in service of a much inferior story compared to the manga original.
Brotherhood, in turn, suffers from playing "catch-up" for its first 10 episodes. In recognition that FMA03 tells the beginning of the story better, it races through the events up to Hughes' death so quickly that watching these episodes without seeing FMA03 will only give you a shallow appreciation for the story up to that point. Sadly, since Brotherhood is more faithful to the manga, there are some events that only occur in these episodes (that don't happen at all in FMA03) that are necessary for the rest of the story. Particularly the events at the 5th Laboratory. Once the rushed episodes are done with, and Brother begins to adapt those parts of the manga not yet depicted by FMA03, it becomes the undeniably better show compared the mess that FMA03 devolves into.
Therefore, there's no point comparing either series 1-to-1, as each is flawed. Instead, the optimal FMA viewing experience is to watch FMA03 up until Episode 25 (hughes' death), then jump ship and start Brotherhood from the beginning. While you will end up repeating some parts of the story, said story is much better told by FMA03 and Brotherhood just corrects a few points of canon before finishing the story proper.
There wouldn't happen to be an edit that combines FMA03 and Brotherhood in a logical manner.
Honestly agree. Brotherhood has some nicely animated fight scenes i guess.
I love them both for different reasons.
It would be awkward, given the different visual style.
It doesn't have Wrath soloing the entire military with only one grenade and his sword so no.
The only thing better about it is that version of Scar. Brotherhood's is boring.
Mob psycho is better and has better fights and a better final manga arc.
Dimple > father
??? > the truth
A greed/greedling is a dumbass who never goes full shield on wrath.
Every fight with him is well animated but stupid at the same time
I can't believe subhuman filth like you still breath my oxygen.
Cease you fucking posers.
You'll never have a real vagine.
Agreed
