so i just started getting into anime and wanted to watch this because it's probably one of the most popular ones (first gonna watch full metal alchemist: brotherhood, though)
do i start with neon genesis: evangelion and then watch the end of evangelion? also, i've heard lots of complaining about the new dub, so should i just watch it in the original language instead, then? or is that also changed?

Evangelion was the first anime to ever feature cute girls so it was a big deal at the time.

It was always overrated to begin with. 20 years later and seeing reactions from the relaunch, I feel vindicated.

I felt the same way. Bought the whole thing years ago, and it's a decently-animated old show with not a lot to offer in the story, character, or fighting departments. I think it's a product of its time, and people's age when they first saw it is pretty important. I was about twenty when I finally got around to it, and had seen enough of the medium that it just wasn't particularly noteworthy. My takeaway was that it was kind of boring, honestly.

It wasn't censorship at all. The script given to the new actors was a literal translation from Japanese so things were lost within that process. Keep outrage culture away from Evangelion please.

Tbh the animation and mechs were pretty cool and still hold up. Watched it for the first time last year but have been watching anime in general for quite some time. I think the story and the general concept of the Eva was cool. Also after watching fran xxx first, Eva was much more satisfying visually. However the ending was complete trash and really ruined the other 22 episodes.

What kind of brainlet do you have to be to think this show is a psychological break through. If you don’t know human emotions are complex and shit sucks. Just deal with it or kys. I was amazed at how long they could make 20 minutes feel in each case, and not in a good way.
It was literally just people whining about how they don't like themselves while the random cuts and questions flashing across the screen tried their best to make it feel 2deep4u.
The end was absolute shit, literally some shoe-horned "it's okay to be me!" happy ending complete with people clapping.
The sad part is that it really felt like they were working up to something meaningful with the character development throughout the series, only to end with that steaming pile of shit.
