What she told the guild was that they kissed there, and at an undisclosed point later, Zeref dumped her comatose body on the guild floor. Since August is her son, it's pretty blatantly clear that it didn't stop at a kiss. It's likely that Mavis went into a coma either at the moment of impregnation, or at the birth of August.
