I haven't been following this clusterfuck, can anyone give me an explanation to the reasoning behind re-dubbing the English VO?

Shit-tier anime.
4/10 overall and not even in the Top 25 of it's own era.

Netflix didn't have the rights to the ADV dub so they had to redub the English version and couldn't afford the music rights for Fly me to the Moon. The new dub is much better but doesn't have the the closing credits.

New dub is shit. Shinji is a tranny that is more focused on sounding like a girl than fitting the role.

New dub is good just watch it subtitled like it was intended if you don't like the new dub but don't pretend the old dub was some masterpiece.

Who is Touji? but nah, memeing aside, they held the reveal of shinji witnessing his mom's "death" later in the series to build up suspense. Anyone could tell something was off from the beginning, but it makes a rewatch of the show that much more enjoyable because it starts to fall into place just how much Shinji rejected and how hard he tried to get away from it all despite knowing deep down he is the one it all rests on. I think its probably the most profound thing in all of Evangelion, it's the fact that we are the only one to control things in life, yet we only react to situations we are thrust into.. It's not an easy thing to explain to someone, but I think everyone present in episode 1 understands that he knows exactly what's happening, but his mind can't wrap around the fact that it's him, that had no part in any of it, that it's being pushed onto.. Anno knew exactly what the fuck he was doing, and we were all like Shinji's to his Gendo at that moment.

I think the issue is that most people don't give the actual narrative much credit because what's happening is so confusing, and it's meant to be that way. We know less than Shinji at that point in the story, and we understand more at the rate he grows... It really is unlike any other show I've saw.. There are some that come close, but will anything ever touch Eva? I don't know..

Seriously though, I had a mental breakdown watching the "Kom Susser Tod" sequence again, and while I think it was mainly due to the audio and it's psychosis inducing properties.. it made me start thinking about when I first watched Eva and how I felt, and even some of the emotions I thought I grew through, and it kinda took alot to keep myself grounded and be like "whew, dude it's just anime" but it's real man, I'm now at a stage in my life where everything I have ever wanted to do has passed me by.. I even lived long enough to see this shit get redubbed... Not that it took like a long time or something, but it just kinda started coming together..

Darling in the Franxx was pretty unsubtle about the "young people taking over the future, and old should just give up mentality" It just came off as desperate because the seniors in Japan outnumber the young people.

user, I'm not asking for sympathy or even acknowledgement to what I'm about to say, but I've recently become disabled due to a bad auto accident, I'm set to become homeless within the next month or so, all of my money has run out within the last year, I even took out loans to try and survive... I've had doctors tell me it will come down to willpower if I will make it through, and surgeries can't help me.. It's been over a year, of suffering, with no insurance and no pain meds, bad nutrition or not being able to eat at all, and being so exhausted that i can't sleep for a week to sleeping for 3 days straight.. i feel like just pulling the trigger every day, and I was suicidal before this due to some really fucked up childhood schizophrenia.. but sometimes, there's just no other option.. If I can't eat, I will die... It's a simple as that, for me at least... I'd imagine I'll at least lay around in a forest until the time comes though. So I won't know until I get there, but if you lie around, at least you're around for a thought to happen, or understand that you could find something to live for..

The children in Evangelion act like adults because they're forced to grow up. The Darling in the Franxx kids are all sheltered because the adults keep coddling them. It also tried to be different from other mecha genre, where as EVA wears the Mecha Genre with pride.

I think for me it was FLCL that really drove home what Eva awoke in me.. I never realized that it was okay to be a kid until it was too late, but I think FLCL did alot for me with it's whole "swing the bat." I liked DarliFra and it's themes are very good, and I'm glad that you go to experience such emotions from it. It's cool to find media that impacts you, and makes you feel a certain way. I think what I took away from DarliFra, is that no matter what happens, you can find a way.. and I think that's a message that more people need to understand.

I think EoE is unironically my favorite movie just because of how absurd it is.. but whats's the most surreal about Eva is that the plot mirrors depression and the human experience SO WELL that it makes me lose touch with my own emotions for a while, and really puts me in the cast's shoes... Watching Shinji slowly realize that it's all his fault is pretty much the biggest mindfuck in the history of mindfucks, and how everyone was using him to meet their own ends really, and i mean really mirrors my experience with paranoia and anxiety so well.

It's a bad end, but the thing about it that's so balls to the wall insane, is that it actually could have been much worse than it was, and Shinji could have only prevented it if he had known what they were hiding from him, much like actual paranoia. It was one of those, ya blew it, and you didn't know until it was too late, but it's still your fault kind of things. Exactly the shit of nightmares that make even the most well-adjusted people shut down.

The literal line being said in Japanese doesn't actually say "Kaworu said I was" and for some reason whoever did the translation for Netflix felt it necessary to make it clear to you that these words weren't literally being said in Japanese but that that was the intended meaning when translated to English.

This one leaves you feeling unsettled, granted, but that is preferable for a 2019 release on Netflix considering the state of the world. But NF will automatically skip the ending anyways so it doesn't matter.

yes, that is the purpose. when watching the show originally, one of my strongest memories was reflecting on what I'd just seen while this romantic and sad yet upbeat song played in the background. I really feel like this was integral to the experience, and replacing it with a song that doesn't replicate the feeling is more detrimental to the show than fucked translation, IMO.

The new dub is perfectly fine. The ending theme is upsetting, but it's not like it undoes what the rest of the series did. You guys are LITERALLY doing nothing more than autisticly screeching. curled up in a nostalgia ball. If you actually appreciated the series, you would be happy that it is about to reach a wider audience, and you would understand that you cant dwell in the past :)
