Recently, I've managed to calm myself down quite a bit... Well, let's just say that instead of arguing, which is something that tires me out, I prefer obeying what I'm being told. During the time I was writing Vento Aureo, I really tormented myself in regards to the matter of "self censorship" in Shonen Manga. By "self censorship," I'm talking about the requests from the editorial board to an author to stop drawing or, at the very least, soften certain elements of the story which haven't been deemed presentable (for example: discriminatory phrases, expressions which might appear racist, the way skin color is drawn, violent scenes or abuse on both the weak and animals, callbacks to real life crimes, the representation of nude bodies, smoking or drinking habits etc..) I wanna make it clear right away that what I am about to write here isn't a critique towards my editors, but simply the real sensations that I, Hirohiko Araki, felt while writing Vento Aureo.

Having reached the fifth part of the series, I desired to write a story which would deal with topics such as the deep sadness in us human beings, or the pain of being born into this world, and I wanted to do it in a stronger manner than the previous parts. Depending on the circumstances in which they are born, there are people who are lucky from the very start, but how would these individuals act if they had been born in a different place instead, one with much harsher conditions? In Vento Aureo, all the protagonists have, in one way or another, been estranged from society and forced to live on its boundaries. We are talking about an environment in which the strong eat the weak and one where evil pervades everything. In such a situation, is it still possible for these characters to find justice?

Also it's weird we never get to see him use this void dimension in more important fights or at all really, if you think about the potential with being able to create a void dimension sticky fingers is probably one of the best stands in all of jojo

When representing the clash between good and evil, it is necessary to describe evil in a realistic way, and it's here that the power of "self censorship" in Shonen Manga really strikes the heaviest of blows in the story that you're trying to write. Smoking, being relentless towards the weak, sexually molesting an individual, stabbing someone with a knife, cutting off heads, abusing men and women, gouging eyes out, eating brain matter: all these are examples of pure evil. To express the evil shadows of human beings a minimum of cruelty and brutality is essential.

Despite having happened sporadically in previous years, as soon as I started Vento Aureo (around 1996), the editorial board suddenly started sending me more and more requests along the lines of "fix this page", "change that line", "modify this drawing" and so on. I would like to show you precisely which dialogues and pages I'm talking about, but it would be a long list so it's better to leave that out for now. Additionally, these requests were rarely motivated (even if they were, they were never in a convincing manner), the indications given to me were typically "...well, it's just that there is kind of a regulation, plus the deadline is close and things just go like this with the board. C'mon hurry up and fix it! You'll think about the rest right?!”

I'll say it again, this is absolutely not a critique in regards to my editors, nor am I insinuating that they developed an unprofessional attitude towards me. (Truth is that I've always been very grateful to my editors!) All I'm trying to say is that during the period I was writing Vento Aureo that sensation was there with me. It's nothing else but a simple personal impression.

With all that said, it's easy to imagine just what type of crisis I was in and how difficult it was for me to successfully express, in a satisfying manner, the themes that I was trying to develop. Moreover, I kept asking myself if by any chance a "wall" had been indefinitely built to limit the liberty of expression, if the possibilities for an artistic development in manga had ran out, or if the ideology of authority and non-stop profit weren't completely stripping away the sprouts of art itself. Even now, despite being in a much more relaxing condition, I can't give myself a definitive answer, but what I felt in that era naturally transpired into the actions and attitudes of my characters.

Giorno and Bucciarati, two of the protagonists, betray the organization which they are part of for the sake of 'justice'. The organization is a symbol of power and moral obligation, almost a second home for them, but they both decide to fight to follow the desire of living according to justice. Even I, as the author, while drawing these scenes felt courage swelling up inside of me. Thinking back on the sentiments of my protagonists never fails to bring tears to my eyes. If these two boys had decided to remain in the shadow of authority, maybe they would have went on to live safe and comfy lives. Instead, despite knowing the risks, they chose the path of justice, because only in its presence would they have been certain their existence actually mattered. Vento Aureo, between great Italian fashion and all the more creative Stand battles, is a story full of suspense, but I also think, according to my judgement as an author, that it can be considered a really dark work. Having said that and considering how at times we can take on such heavy subjects, I am very proud of it. Just like with all the other parts, I hope with all my heart that you have fun reading it. Regarding the parts that I had to cut, I will talk about this in the afterthoughts of the last volume.

Nah, I actually like this better. A traitor in the party is pretty typical. Although I felt Fugo would be good revisit, which the LN apparently does.

But an outright coward in the main cast is really surprising, especially fugo who really seemed to have it together. He's the kind you expect to be really against it but it all aboard but no, he's literally playing it straight and when the chips are on the table he picks himself over the crew. It's a strangely mature and sullen way for him to exit and he stands by his decision to the end, only returning after the journey is over

No, he zips his heart in half to make sure Beach Boy can't detect his heart beat, and then when he goes to reassemble himself he realizes that because he hasn't had a heart in him for a while that he is not strong enough to zip himself together again.

No, but Fugo himself admitted that what they were trying to do was 'the right thing', and obviously he'd WANT everyone on the team to be okay, but still thought that his life was worth more than trying ((and presumably failing)) to defeat the boss for said 'right thing'/to protect his friends.

It was obvious from the start they weren't going to do it, pictures from araki or not its still basically a fan work, and Fugo himself isn't really popular enough to warrant a potentially multiple episode OVA about him. Only TSKR was only really well liked enough to get two.

You're mixing up two completely separate ideas. Fugo did choose his own life over doing the right thing (which is something they all already did by joining a gang).

But doing the right thing isn't saving his friends. It's saving Trish, some random stranger. He was never put into a position where he had to choose to save his friends or not.

Narancia was a hero who took one for the team.
He knew the season was ending and someone had to die so he did his best to deathflag himself and save the others.

It's not like him going with them meant that he was doing it entirely for Trish, he'd have been doing it for Bruno/the team just like Abbacchio was.

Why? Only Bruno and Narancia were doing it mostly for Trish, everyone else was either doing it for themselves and/or for the rest of the team.

Fugo's decision was basically that, he made his stance clear that he wasn't going to risk his life for Trish even if he thought it was the right thing to do, so it came down to whether he thought it was worth it to basically die TRYING to protect his team and the guy who took him in and made him family, or to leave them to at least save his own life.

It seems like a reasonable decision, even if in Fugo's eyes they were doomed to failure, he owed a lot to Buccellati for taking him in, and Giorno as well since he had gone out of his way to save his life during man in the mirror even though he didn't have to. That's why he showed so much hesitation when making the choice, would you die for your friends or would you chose to at least save yourself?

It's one of those bits where the theory of 'Diavolo can physically interfere if epitaph already fated him to do so' comes in, similar to the point where he busted through the elevator and cut off Trish's arm. Epitaph predicts Diavolo goes and throws Narancia onto the fence, and so he just goes along with it and doesn't avoid anything, ends up being a good choice since you basically just get to attack in the open, just no one remembers it.

That being said, it's more likely in reality that it's just one of Araki's flubs, or Diavolo did it after the skip just SUPER quiet or some shit.

The Fugo scene gives me hope that the anime's ending/epilogue will feel more natural unlike the manga which ended it all rather abruptly and without much closure

It'd be worth the time if they could add in what happened to Trish after everything's over, Polnareff contacting Jotaro, maybe a funeral for Narancia/Abbacchio/Bruno, or at least some kind of mourning thing, maybe Giorno/Mista reconciling with Fugo, and maybe a quick montage/stills of Giorno and Mista doing a bit more gang leader stuff.

Perhaps not everything there, but giving a little bit of closure to the end would make it infinitely better than JUST showing a quick shot of Giorno getting sworn in and Mista opening a fucking window.

So how's the season been? Has been a decent adaptation? Read it years ago but I haven't made time to watch it and now I figure I'll just wait for the BDs so all the blood is uncensored anyway.

Extremely good adaption, great music, voice acting, and they've ramped up the visuals/lighting in a lot of places to make some of the fights more exciting.

Yeah, and if Epitaph shows Diavolo say, throwing Narancia onto a fence in front of everyone he can just decide to go along with it instead of changing/avoiding anything, all that changes in that scenario is that no one remembers what they must have just seen.

It was very smartly put together, all that DP technically needed to censor was open flesh wound type stuff, but if you have needles/scissors emerging from the skin, or knives going INTO the skin, the effect is brutal looking but there isn't actually much, if any, exposed flesh on screen, just a lot of blood, so they barely had to do anything.

I can't think of nothing else but the music they're going to use when Giorno reveals GER. It is the only time THAT moment happens in the original series (so Part 7 doesn't count) so it has to be grandiose.

In what way does alt-Diego ruin Valentine?
If anything, it drives home how petty Valentine was by showing the lengths he was willing to go to fuck over Johnny, and made him a more interesting villain. I wasn't big on The World being brought back, but it doesn't ruin the story and especailly doesn't ruin Valentine.

This, it's not an issue of how far the time spreads, but how far the people themselves can travel before the power turns off. If it takes DIO more than ten seconds to run up to you then his time stop isn't really worth using.

Actually, looking back on it, you'd probably only have 5 seconds, since that's the maximum limit Jotaro was able to reach by training it in Stone Ocean.

It is absolutely worth using since it affects more than his 3 meters. It's shown to practically affect the entire world, even given his "short" range. He can just use the time stop to pick better vantage points and places to ambush, instead of rushing in like a retard and yelling ZA WARUDO, letting the enemy know exactly where he is.

This is jojo we're talking about, not much point in fighting at all if you aren't strong-arming your way through a fight while screaming your stand name every five seconds.

It's been stated in the manga that the time stop is related to the user's stamina (and the heart if I remember right). DIO being a vampire basically bolsters his stamina and physical limits, and with him being immortal, gives him limitless potential in both himself and his stand. Him being a vampire absolutely affects his stand, as stands are based on their mental and physical manifestations.

Another way to do it is subtlely. All you have to do is find someone wanting to play the lotto, buy them their ticket, then wait until the numbers are drawn and then ask them if they won. Giorno's stand can affect his own body, unlike Josuke. His soul was in Narancia's body, so he never actually died, and thus his soul was able to return to his body after Narancia's soul went to heaven.

Babyface was great in the anime. It was probably my least favorite fight in the manga but DP did an amazing job with it.

This one is literally a still image they superimposed cg bullets and a flash over, not one thing is animated
The other one is two frames of arm motion straight up interpolated between each other because they didn't have more frames
Also everyone looks like a potato and the bullets veer like 45 degrees out of the barrel
The show is great but this was QUALITY on par with killer grocery bag for sure (they were smart enough to relegate quality to unimportant scenes this time though, so it is good work on their part nonetheless)

I expected King Crimson to appear first in Fighting Gold, with the music jumping and the corresponding scenes changing. What they did with this Opening is cool, but it really paints KC as just another The World.
