while everyone is talking about Evangelion and Mob Psycho 100, I just want to thank Yea Forums for introducing me to Elfen Lied for the first time. I love the manga now more than ever, and I can’t wait to spend some quality time watching this series.
Elfen Lied is perhaps the most controversial story of all time. Opinions on it varies greatly with some calling it "garbage of the century" while others claiming it an outstanding "masterpiece of all masterpieces". I prefer to stay away from these extremes but without a doubt naming Elfen Lied as the former is far from justified.
nothing is perfect. what Elfen Lied lacked was some great artistic drawing. although the reader can depict one action from the next, the amount of detail (ie. the quality of the artwork) is seemingly below what one would expect from such high quality story.

But is somehow fitting. The mangaka has a great ability to turn the most cutest things into something that'd make you want to throw up. Limbs will be torn off, and bodies ripped in half. In other words if you don't have a strong stomach don't read.
Let me tell you about Elfen Lied. The authors clearly good at drawing. Story telling and planning out a plot, however...

>lacked great artistic drawing Don't know much about art but it was pretty nice. I think there are some scenes where the charcters are suddenly disproportioned, but they're in small little spaces so they don't stand out much. Quite a few bloody scenes that were done nicely.
Character design is very generic. It is of the variety where ever character that shares a gender has the same face with varying sizes, hair and eye color. What stands out in this series is how the mangaka draws the surroundings, and the military equipment that you'll see a lot. While I can't call myself a military nut, and it'd be wrong to say that they aren't generic, Okamoto puts enough detail into the weapon, but that's not really saying much. Of all of its traits, Elfen Lied's art is the second best, but that's not a hard accomplishment in the presence of its other scores.

Mayor spoilers ahead: this was written in her epitaph right? and I didn't get why in the end of the manga, exist two more diclonius who are friendly to kota, where they come from?

I understand that this was (and most certainly is) suppose to be a bloody, gorey, nudity fest that usually appeals to guys and girls who are fans of guro. I wouldn't say I'm not a fan of guro, but I would say I'm not a fan of pointless guro which the first few volumes of the series seemed to be. The artist draws very awkwardly character wise during the first 6 or so volumes of the series, but when the art does improve it is a great time because the story kicks it up a notch as well.
It's implied that they are Lucy reincarnated as twins

thx pal, now I get it, time to re-read again the manga.

Elfen Lied is the ultimate man's manga; including all fundamental aspects one has come to expect from a male oriented manga with no exception of blood, nudity, sexual references and imagery, brutal violence, science fiction and even cat girls.
David Lee
What Elfen Lied lacks for in art, it makes up for 10x fold in story. The anime felt just like a gore fest while the first half of the manga felt the same, then the plot really kicked in during the second half and started to make me shed real tears.
some of the chapters are fucked up, I remember (not very well) when the hunter give a "good use" in his own words to the loli diclonious who later was dismembered and put in a container with some shit who make her suffer in pain all the time JUST for being used as an compass to reach Lucy's house.
I can't find a manga with the same level
Parker Cooper
the art wasn't the best part of the manga, it wasn't really eye catching, but since the storyline was great, the art didn't make a huge deal, though I think everything in this manga is great.
Wyatt Foster
Seeing the hunter get absolutely BTFO'D by BASED BEACH CLEANER was amazing
Jonathan Sanders
It is definitely the best manga that I’d ever read; I was continuously reminded of the times of happiness (and how precious they are), times of sadness, times of pain, times of love, times of loneliness, times of anger, times of fear, times of betrayal, times of confusion, times of blood and times of tears.
Nolan Hernandez
I watched the anime first but I was happy to continue the story from where the anime stops and I think that the second half is actually the better half of the plotline with some wonderful twists and what I think is a very fitting ending.
Ethan Hernandez
The character designs are probably some of the ugliest things I’ve ever had to look at, especially when it comes to the characters’ eyes. They’re drawn huge, even by manga standards and look like they came from the anime for clannad, except without Kyoani’s standard high level of detail.
yeah, and when the girl who wears diapers is about to read an acceptance letter from an institute: the suspence, all the gang reunited ready to eat around the futon, I and maybe YOU was exited about the news and the fate of this girl. one page later... was amazing, trully amazing
Isaac Rogers
Nana, Mayu and Lucy have nice designs though. Still, they looked completely out of place in a violent manga like this one.
The scientists had some of the least unique character designs I've ever seen. I could not even tell them apart.
it was for but anyways, you are right too, have all kind of emotions.
Luke Garcia
The 'art' of Elfen Lied is nothing special. It has its own drawing style, but that style wasn't really that special for me. I don't say that the art is bad, but it's not really that detailed or has any special thing to mention. I will not remember the manga for its art, but for its good story.
Nolan Jenkins
Elfen Lied is disgusting and yes it is very depressing. But its story telling is amazing and is very enjoyable.
Jordan Gutierrez
>bad things happening to cute girl bait for sympathy It wouldn't be nearly as popular if it had a male protagonist and didn't feature tons of nudity
The art is really special, the panels are well depicted and truly describe the atmosphere felt throughout the story, the character's have unique designs and the use of light and shadows is well managed in the different parts of the story. The form of all the pieces together makes it work and take life as a piece of art.

>SNKfag has a shit opinion woah
Joshua Ross
The manga has a great amount of character development, even for lesser characters and even villains. Even the villains are well written. From an institution director attempting to protect his daughter, to said daughter attempting to protect her father, or even a diclonius man that has endorse humanity viewing his species as monster-like. There isn't a single human character.
