On the one hand, it's a tradition so ingrained in the industry that you rarely see series with casts whose designs don't follow some sort of personality checklist. On the other hand, yes, it means we're not being delivered as much creativity as would be nice. But I hope you grump around in threads for the majority of anime whose character designs follow the standard fare.
