But I wonder if any US viewers were turned off by his personality. I find that aspect of him entertaining to watch although I think it's a legitimate character flaw.

I think it was a bad first impression coming from when Ran was crying about the murder case and the drama and how Kudo just kinda glossed over it and instead made a joke that if she kept crying she'd melt away. He still says he sees it all the time, can't let the job affect him, and that it's best to forget it, but I guess that earlier remark coupled with his ego through the first episode laid it on a bit thick for some people. At least some seemed to agree it was a lovable character trait. Later commentary was just from people who were already sticking to the series so those comments stopped showing up outside the debut.

The first episode laying on his arrogant attitude thick was a good thing because it made his transformation into Conan make sense thematically as a kind of karmic punishment for getting carried away with himself. I think his deep-seated narcissism is also interesting because of how it's reflected in his behavior in so many ways throughout the series.
Perfect characters without flaws are boring anyhow.

Yea, I guess it flew by some viewers at face value. I'm at least glad some people warmed up to Conan being the protagonist, despite the reception Shinichi got some people did seem to like him and want to see the series go with himself and not as a child, but that's partly because it was on Adult Swim. The dub keeping his adult voice for thoughts seemed to help people see Conan as small Shinichi, so that whenever Conan reacted to something or showed heart, they remembered that he's still Shinichi too. Regular Shinichi never had a lot of screen time during the dub, especially what aired on TV, so that helped his character to some viewers I'd imagine. I did see some positive comments regarding Kudo mixed in with the other stuff even during the debut but with just like 2 episodes featuring him, he didn't have time to prove himself directly. The first and last episodes on [as] had him as himself, it kind of book-ended the airing. I'd like to hope most people didn't forget about Kudo, the repetitive recap at the beginning probably helped too.
Also this image features good shots of non-remastered episodes, including the Tequila case. I wonder if this is as close to a remaster as these will get.

Aoyama says she's "completely flat, not when she was Shiho though", but I could see that just keeping the idea he drew a kid under 10 with breasts under the radar. Sometimes it can pass as an arched torso or shirt fold but other times it doesn't make sense unless she has something under there. I don't remember manga wise but an episode had Ayumi with defined breasts so clearly someone else sees the arches as breasts.
It would be really adorable if this was the case.

I like that the CC dub kept his adult voice for his thoughts since he had a good actor. I just wish the script or direction was more faithful to the original Shinichi's personality. They kept his sarcastic attitude, which was good, but I would've liked to see more of that aggressive flashy bravado of his instead of sounding so laid-back.

Jewell is great and I like his laid back voice but I also enjoy the times he would have more emotional scenes. I think most of the times that he would have been able to do that came after the dub ended, because early on the series was more basic in its construction before they knew they were going to be doing the entire manga and it wasn't going to be a short 1 season show. Even the first movie was more casual than the rest. We could have gotten some good stuff out of the Desperate Revival arc.

I think he might have a moment where he'd acknowledge her cuteness, like he did with Eri's beauty the first time he saw her after years since she too resembled Ran. But I don't think his interest would go beyond that, since he loves Ran for reasons beyond her looks. It's more like he loves her particular looks because they belong to Ran rather than the other way around. And he isn't a flirtatious type of guy like Kaito is.

That reminds me, in the May issue of Ciao magazine (that shoujo monthly) there was a furoku with profiles for the cute boys of Conan. The contents were supervised by Gosho, and included questions like, "What type of girl do you like?" And Conan just answered, "Ran, of course!" That doesn't seem to leave any room for any other girl.

It was already there, I think they had the Case Closed era episodes for a short time and then that was wiped and it was just starting from the 700s or something in some kind of collection, I don't use netflix but it might still have those episodes. It and Crunchyroll are the only ways I know of to support the series in America but they're missing hundreds of episodes, over half the series. Crunchyroll apparently had those CC episodes too before the license died.

From an outside perspective it just seems like they do these as they go at random.

Maybe not as they're discovered, but as they decide to just do one without care as to which. They don't seem to have a long term plan for the remasters. They should just release them uncut and unedited for purchase/streaming. If they are a hassle to do it's a bad strategy to just air them once on TV.

I never really wanted Conan to stay as Conan and get with Haibara while not going with Ran, it'd be sad for her. I do like the idea of Conan and Haibara though, it's cute. If Ran wasn't involved at all or they never had a relationship beyond friends then yea. As it is I wouldn't want Ran to be rejected and since they're already dating that kinda settles it.
