In your own opinion, I would like to know about the opposite side of translating. The first step is of course learning japanese, but what would you need to translate it properly into english? Would you need some english courses or maybe major in it?

He's right. It's obviously not full range (well full limited range) anywhere.

His original claim was the whole 'I'm just correcting for faded film masters' but when the preponderance of evidence piled up in his face he changed his tune to the ludicrous 'the entirety of evangelion was a mistake and i'm fixing it'.
He was right about nothing and you can easily look up the laserdisc and early dvd releases that are sourced from the broadcast tapes to get a feel for the original color grading.
