We've already established that Akko isn't nearly as incompetent as everyone else believed she was so those shenanigans are out of the window, our mistress and savior Diana already mellowed so no more death stare porn, the side characters' tropes were already played to death in S1.

I'm gonna go with the extremely optimistic and least likely prediction that this originally was supposed to be a simple VR thing but then wanted to do a full game and lacked the funds to do it, thus the Kickstarter for more content, more polish and a potential PSVR port.

Trigger explicitly said that they changed the ending of the season to only have Cons say that she flew rather than everyone like originally planned, because to Trigger, Akko being good at flying = show is definitely over and they wanted to leave that door open.
Plus, they've already said what they would like to explore in future projects (Diana's family, Amanda's family, Chariot's backstory) and LWA is the only series of theirs where they've outright said that they want to do more.

The real big dick move would be to announce a chibi shorts series for this year, the game next year, and then say they're doing a proper new LWA animation (to leave it ambiguous so it could be a new season or OVAs)
