Alright Yea Forums I haven't made a 3x3 on gimp in years so pls rate my anime and also rate my design. Did I do a good job or is it mediocre? How can I improve it? I struggled really hard on making the grid, anyone know an easy way to make a perfectly aligned grid?
Also, I'm going to sleep so when I wake up in 8 or so hours I'll rate the people who rated me assuming the thread is still alive.

A) Make sure all nine of your panels are the exact same size. You can add a border to each panel right away - that will make the next step easier (B1). If you don't want to do that, go to B2.
B1) Get your panels' width/height (henceforth called w and h).
Create a new image in Gimp with dimensions: 3w , 3h.
Then select in the menu:
Image > Guides > New Guide
Add two horizontal guides at positions h and 2h.
Add two vertical guides at positions w and 2w.
B1) Get your panels' width/height (henceforth called w and h). Also ponder on how wide you want your border to be (henceforth b). I will assume that you don't want an outer border in the next steps.
Create a new image in Gimp with dimensions: (3w + 2b) , (3h + 2b).
Then select in the menu:
Image > Guides > New Guide
Add four horizontal guides at positions h and (h+b) and (2h+b) and (2h+2b).
Add two vertical guides at positions w and (w+b) and (2w+b) and (2w+2b).
C) Insert all your panels as layers, one layer each.
Either from the clipboard (Edit > Paste as > New Layer) or, if you have them saved as separate files, with (File > Open as layers).
D) Position your panel Layers using the guidelines you created earlier. Then save and export.

Yeah see that's the issue I have with gimp. I make my border using
filter >render >pattern >grid
Hence why I get some thing with off panels like my first 3x3 has.
Anyway your advice is pretty good, I was a bit confused on the border part but I think I get it. I'll finish up my new 3x3 when I get back home and see how it turns out.

To make sure all panels are the same size, resize and crop them beforehand. An easy method is to make a new image of the desired size (let's say 300x300) and inserting all nine images as layers.
Then resize each of those layers individually and position them in the image in a way that that the fill it. Export as png and repeat for all other layers. That'll give you 9 separate files with the same dimensions for all 9 panels.

With the second approach (B2), the borders should be an afterthought. You'll get them automatically and they'll have the same coulour (or image) as your picture's background. Which means you can easily change them.
If you use method B1, just open each of the layers and either run (Filters > Decoration > Add Border) or go to (Image > Canvas size) and use the "Center" button to get a regular border.

Yeah the thing is I want to try making it symmetrical with outer borders but its just coming off a bit off but I think I finally got the math right.
Gonna make a 3x3 with outerborders, so four borders in total (b). Assuming w for width

Well ... that will give you some regular pattern. But it if you scale your individual panels to width w, they won't even fit into the gridlines you suggested (those will be tighter), and certainly give you no border. I feel you are overthinking it!
Hint: Never operate with subtractions and divisions/fractions when you compose an image from smaller images. Literally everything is simple additions and multiplications.
If you want outer borders with the same border-width as the inner borders, you should use the following vertical guidelines:
b , (w+b) , (w+2b) , (2w+2b) , (2w+3b) , (3w+3b)
Same for height h and horizontal guidelines.
With image size (3w+4b) times (3h+4b).
For example, say your panels have both a width and height of 300 px and you want a border of 10px. Then your image should be 940x940 and your guidelines (both horizontal and vertical):
10, 310, 320, 620, 630, 930

I'm not saying that my approach would look better, in fact I'd expect it to look pretty much the same. But I do think you made it more complicated for yourselfe than you would have had to. (Adding things up from the left and top is much easier: Think "how many borders and pics are to the left of this line?".)
Also, with the different characters, I guess I'll rate it again.
