I feel like the countdown arc is reintroducing all the characters still alive for the final showdown over who gets the fruit. I’m sure that Karera and Kyo will be given the spotlight next now that two characters who were previously non-entities (Mitsuba and Oujirou) are major players. Araki did start planning JoJolion in 2007 so I have faith that he knows what he’s doing with all these characters.

I knew this was near the Higashikata store. When people were posting that image of Araki drawing it it seemed like it might be some place in England (and might have served as that partially) but I went back and saw that the area drawn here looked similar to when we first saw the Higashikata Fruit Parlor.

I never wanted minor villains back, specially Ojiro whose arc was kind of meh, it was cool seeing him back but him being relevant of all sudden feels kind of random and he's not that interesting, at least not as the other characters we haven't seen in a while

In one of the JoJonium author’s notes (I forget which one), he says that part of the reason he decided to make Stands a psychic/spiritual ability as opposed to a biological one like Hamon was so that the range of potential characters was broader. It let him make old women and children actual threatening characters, something he felt wasn’t a thing inother shonen series at the time. It’s why early Part 3 was really wacky in its variety of Stand users, he wasn’t restricted to just strong people who train a lot but he could have babies, old people, retards, a fucking monkey etc. So it’s no wonder he likes making kids important characters, especially with one of the main themes being about passing the torch on to the next generation. It’s a match Made in Heaven.

If Sasame exposes it then the authorities will investigate the Higashikata Fruit Company for fraud and find out about the smuggling. There’s only like 5 days to go until the countdown, so they won’t be investigated that quickly, but it makes Jobin’s life a hell of a lot harder. And it has the potential to ruin the family, Jobin wants to make them even richer and more powerful so this is a direct roadblock for him. Ojiro and Makorin just want to ruin the family and then buy their land cheap, as well as getting the Rokakaka for Ojiro’s fingers.

Hrs pale there because he hadn’t left his apartment in at least three days, probably longer since he was planning his torture apartment trap for quite a while. This chapter said he was in a better place emotionally, so he was out surfing again and got his tan back. In the Vitamin C flashback Kira points out how tanned he looks and tells him to fuck off, before putting an explosive bubble in his lip and elbowing him in the face. So he’s normally tanned and takes care of his appearance, but the Sasame we saw in the first few chapters was him in psychotic NEET mode and not going outside for ages.

There’s numerous factions at play currently. Josuke/Yasuho/Rai is the main one, though Rai has said numerous times that his true loyalty is with Norisuke and he’s only working with them as long as it’s of benefit to Norisuke. Norisuke has the interests of his family at heart, but doesn’t actively want anyone else to get hurt. Jobin is another side, he’s currently got Kaato and Tsurugi with him and probably Mitsuba, though she knows more than he thinks she does. The Rock Doctors are another faction completely, although they only have one member left. And now we have Sasame and Makorin, who want to ruin the Higashikata’s reputation and livelihoods, then buy their land dirt cheap to build a casino on since it’s lucky land and very good quality for foundations.

That’s actually a pretty clever use for Fun Fun Fun. It’s got more applications than hurting people, you can use it for intel gathering as well. I bet next chapter he’s gonna make Tsurugi hurt his other limbs, then with complete control over him he’ll make Tsurugi attack Jobin and Jobin will have to find a way to beat Sasame without hurting his son.

Not him but I don’t remember exactly what it was from, but someone asked him several years ago if Rohan would show up in JoJolion since the newer Rohan one-shots appeared to be using the JJL version of Morioh. Araki said Rohan would never show up in JJL because they’re separate works in his mind, but that another bizarre mangaka would appear. Either they haven’t yet, or he changed that detail later to differentiate the character from Rohan more and we already have them. Hopefully someone has the source.

Also some of the things in his fight don’t add up. He claims that he kidnapped a woman to use for his trap in Kira’s apartment, but the woman herself recognised Josuke and claimed he was actually there with her three days ago. Maybe Ojiro is like Doppio while Satoru or someone else is like Diavolo?

He’s a father (possibly grandfather soon, his daughters are in their 20s) and the story is all about family. It’s provably deeply upsetting for him to think of young kids getting hurt, which is exactly why he puts it in his manga. All his favourite characters (besides original Josuke) get put through a lot of shit and are made to suffer. Yasuho is his favourite Part 8 character and she gets put in fucked up situations constantly. He writes stuff that makes him uncomfortable because it challenges him to get better and the chances are good that the audience will also be made uncomfortable and get more invested in the story.

Jobin is literally the best antagonist in the series. He is by no means a horrible person. No worse than most mobsters, but just because of the fact that we are following Josukes story and Jobins ideals just so happen to clash with Josukes so strongly, Jobin is labeled as the antagonist. Neither is good nor evil, theyre both fighting for their own desires and will do whatever it takes to get them. Both have their fight's, both have their family to lose, both have their perfectly justifiable reasons to obtain the fruit. It's just fate that makes one the hero and one the villain.

I'd also like to add on to this the fact that the duality of Gappy and Joubin work pretty well. If we go back to the scene where Gappy is with Norisuke in a car, Norisuke pulls out a bear and robot and tells Gappy to choose. He chooses the bear, then calls him a "Yanki." Later on, when he first enters Joubins Room, we see Joubin tinkering with toy robots, which is the opposite of the bear, the Yanki, and by proxy Gappy. They're contrasting people in a similar situation, and their conflicting actions and unrivaled drive is literally affecting the world and the people around them.
And that shit gets my dick rock hard.

And I'd also like to add on to this the duality between their general themes and stands. Josukes soft and wet uses bubbles, while speed King is heat based.
They counter eachother directly.
One represents the soft, the other is cold and robotic.
Jobins spikes on his outfit also tell us visually that he is a threat to josukes and his bubbles. Spikes pop bubbles.
And then there's the whole 'are you a man of the land or a man of the sea' thing. Josukes sailor outfit and theme shows he's a man of the sea. While jobins rocky motif and heat theme along with the reliance of the Earth's fruit shows he's a man of the land. And then there's Sasame in the middle of it all, about to set this grand conflict off and he bit his fingers off not being able to choose the land or the sea.

They also parallel Jonathan and Dio, but the main JoJo is the adopted kid, and the spoiled rich kid is the villain.

He really benefited making jojo go from weekly to monthly.

He can make one thing look like another to whoever touches his origami. He killed Aisho by making buses look like Jobin, so Aishou stepped out to confront Jobin but was instead run over by a bus. He helped Jobin steal the branch by making a normal branch look like the Rokakaka branch to Josuke and Poor Tom. In the current chapters, his ability is evolving due to the stress of his impending illness, keeping a secret with Jobin and all the near death experiences he and his family are experiencing.

Yeah that's one of the really good things of late JJL, he's a good foil to Gappy and feels like a "second MC"
I wasn't convinced of him being the big baddy at first but If he actually is I like how Araki is representing him, not as a big threat nor a evil to defeat, just a good, caring family man that just happens to oppose Josuke, It would be like Diego or Sandman being the main villain of SBR.

The way Araki handled Sandman was unironically worse than Fugo. At least Fugo’s departure made sense with his character, Soundman was completely gutted for no reason.

So what is the consensus on soft and wet’s abilities now? I’m a big fan of the stand but the precise mechanics of plundering never seemed too consistent. Do you think they’re entirely gone now, like a Giorno situation? If so that’s kind of a downer. And what’s up with the bubbles being strings?

He still steals things, just physical objects now and not concepts like vision or phenomena like friction. As for the strings, it’s teasing some sort of power up. They’re rotating at very high speed, which is similar to string theory, so they’re gonna be some crazy Spin related particle manipulation shit.

Joshu is a wildcard. He could go anywhere. He would want to side with Jobin for being family and to spite Josuke, but he wouldn’t be comfortable with betraying Norisuke. His little side story shows that he does actually have an inkling of doing the right thing, so in the end he’s probably going to end up doing the right thing even if it puts him in opposition with Jobin. It’s definitely gonna take a while to reach that point though.

Gappy is going to accidentally discover the Spin. Someone will mention the Golden Ratio in an inane conversation and he'll accidentally combine the GR and his spinning Bubbles.

JoJoniums stopped with 3. They sold poorly in Japan due to a printing issue on the first runs of the early books that caused the ink to come off and stuck to people’s fingers, and after fixing it in later printings sales never recovered.

That said, Viz are doing a Part 4 release in a similar format to JoJonium, just without the interviews and new cover art. The first one came out earlier this year. It looks like they’re going to be 2-in1 volumes instead of varied lengths like the JoJoniums, which makes me wonder how they’ll handle the final volume since the last 3 chapters of Part 4 are included in the first volume of Part 5.

Kira bullied him pretty hard after finding out he used his Stand to torture girls for fun, but it’s possible they were at least semi close before that. Also Sasame was in Kira’s apartment the day he died and a few days after, and Karera said that Kira kept Rokakaka in his kitchen there. It’s possible he didn’t actually learn about them from Kira but from finding some dead Rokakaka (cause they weren’t watered for a few days) at Kira’s place.

It’s not disliked, just less popular. It was controversial early on because Jotaro ‘died’ mainly, and Jolyne wasn’t the typical female shonen protag of the time. Probably didn’t help that there was a 9 month hiatus between the end of Part 5 and the beginning of Part 6 either, when previously Araki did all of Parts 1-4 with 0 breaks or hiatuses, and only like 5 weeks off total during Part 5’s run.

I outright hated Part 6 the first time I read it, but on rereads my opinion did a complete 180. Definitely reread it at some point, it’s definitely kind of polarising at first but it’s the kind of story you like more the more you reread it.

Yeah Araki’s colourings are dope. He bases them on what looks aesthetically appealing instead of for consistency. It’s why most characters have numerous colour schemes, they’re never coloured the same way twice. That’s where the colour switch moments in the anime came from, they wanted to homage Araki’s variety of colour schemes for different characters.

The Wall Eyes are still mentioned every so often, and it still hasn’t been explained where Stands came from in this Part. Every other Part explains how the characters got their Stands, but in JJL it’s still a mystery seemingly tied to the Wall Eyes. The Wall Eyes appeared in the March earthquake, and in last month’s chapter Makorin pointed out that the Higashikata estate was virtually untouched by the tsunami. Both Yasuho and Damo have mentioned that the Wall Eyes look like they’re protecting Morioh from something out at sea. The fact that Makorin reinforced that feature of the land reaffirms in my mind that the Wall Eyes plot is still coming, but it’ll probably be a while.

She was at the Fruit Parlour at the beginning of the chapter, Sasame waited until only Jobin and Tsurugi were home for this. Unlike Damo or Poor Tom, his Stand isn’t good at incapacitating multiple people so he has to play to his strengths.

This is the real wasted potential of Jojolion. Since Higashikata = "Jo" we potentially have multiple JoJos in Gappy, Joshu, and Jobin. I really like how Jobin has been having his own Adventure with Tsurugi lately, but we should've been having the same with Joshu this whole time as well. That's where it seemed like it was going during the milagro man arc, but after that Joshu's development and adventures have pretty much completely stopped. It makes his presence in the Everyday is Summer Vacation Arc seem less significant since he isn't a "real" JoJo like Gappy and Jobin. Sucks too, because he has one of the coolest stands in the entire part, and the idea of a total loser being an important character was interesting

We’re still like only a bit past halfway through if it really is 150 chapters, so there’s plenty of time for Joshu to do stuff in the final act. Araki clearly has plans for Joshu since over the entire run of JJL so far he’s been pretty consistently present, it’s just gonna take a while for the payoff since Araki seems to be taking his time and not wanting to rush anything.

If it was 150, I totally agree. HOWEVER... SBR was 95 chapters, and once we saw Norisuke in the bodybag we started using timestamps like in the finale of Part 4.

The reason is that the tempo was worse than previous parts. Story doesn't flow, it kind of pukes random shit.

I want to add on a few things as well, particularly with the theory of Tsurugi being an 89 year old man.

We saw two instances of this in the chapter. One with the lady and the baby and the other where Tsurigi somehow escapes from Ojirou from the edge of the cliff while Ojirou himself nearly falls off. We can probably rationalise this as an "evolution" of Paper Moon King where people's perceptions are altered, to the point where they think they're doing one thing while doing something else in reality. Hence, the "time skip".

Meanwhile in the hospital chapters, we saw that our protagonists ran into things seemingly out of the blue when trying to chase the Head Doctor. Couldn't the reason be that the HD changed their perception of reality, causing them to stumble into things at random? It bears some similarity to PMK.

Some anons already pointed this out where Tsurugi looks old as shit in . We also see HD at the school gate incident. It's a stretch but it's crazy to theorise that Tsurugi transformed into the HD.

All in all, Tsurigi is basically KC2: Electric Boogaloo without the precognition. Excited to see a combination of Speed King with PMK Mk II. That would be a good final villain.

JJL is gonna be at least 100 given the way chapter numbers are done in the volumes, and SBR’s chapters in the middle were way longer than JJL’s. A lot of SBR volumes only had 3 chapters in them compared to the 4 JoJolion volumes have, so 150 JoJolion chapters would be 30 something volumes compared to SBR’s 24 volumes. Doesn’t seem that much of a stretch to me. Also the countdown is just to when the fruits are ready to be harvested, not the actual fight over them and whatever happens next. SBR’s final act (starting at chapter 59 ‘Both Sides Now Part 1’ because it was originally titled ‘To the Grounds of the Final Battle’) was 36 chapters, so I imagine JJL’s is gonna be even longer considering how many more characters and plot threads are still in play compared to SBR at that point. So even once we reach the end of the countdown there’s still gonna be a shitload left to get through.

It’s odd that Araki hasn’t given us a last name for Tooru yet. And we know Josefumi’s ‘father’ is Sadafumi Kujo, and I don’t see his whore mother fucking a man as old as Satoru then having a shotgun wedding after getting pregnant. She’s probably a gold digger but her circumstances in the flashback didn’t seem like she was divorcing a rich old guy considering she was still working herself.

I don’t think Go Nagai is in a regular serial at the moment though, he mostly does one-shots and collaborations these days right? I think most people expect Araki to do that too, but by retirement they usually mean ending his serialisation and just publishing stuff when he feels like it, not on a regular schedule mandated by the publishers.

Of course they’re coming back, Araki has been planning JJL since 2007. People take the ‘Araki forgot’ meme too seriously, he’s clearly got a plan for the story even if he still makes up fights and powers on the fly. He’s never outright dropped entire characters before either.
