Fujiwara would technically be the lowest for me too but I kind of make an exception for her, since her being mostly static feels intentional at this point.

Not him but I can completely understand it, because for her to get focus you are removing screentime from the other characters just for her to get "good" while the others already are, it's no wonder that people will be annoyed. The part of the manga from the elections up to the Sports festival is what I was referring to when I said Miko post introduction wasn't handled well so I'm not disagreeing. Though imo, her problem has always been lacking meaningful interactions with the MC's, she's had plenty when it comes to comedy but not actual development with them which again is a problem with her not being in focus since her introduction.

Anyway a lot of this is wait and see for me since very little has even happened in this plot yet, you're not wrong with your complaints(though some are exaggerated) but like I said at this point they just feel overly pessimistic.

It's different for Kaguya and Prez. Sure, Kaguya might be kind of a psycho in her methods compared to Shirogane, but in the end the two spent the entire time scheming against each other for that victory. They were both equally at fault in playing that "love is war" game.

With Miko and Ishigami, both are pretty flawed individiuals even if they are good people at heart, but where Ishigami would rather keep to himself not bothering anyone, Miiko aggressively meddles with anyone in her field of view and chews them up until they comply or lash out at her. In this situation, Ishigami comes up as a harrassment victim, and the only thing that can be said in the other direction is Ishigami making scalding comments after being provoked. In any case, Ishigami is already trying to improve himself... for the sake of Tsubame, so Miko's presence feels unnecesary to his development.

I have yet to find another romcom that's like Kaguya. Specifically with love is war theme that has MC and the main heroine duke it out to make the other side yield. Entire inner monologues, mental gymnastics rationalization, and tsundere shenanigans included.

I see the way Ishigami and Miko live their lives as what make them at fault for why they don't get along. Miko cares too much (likely because she wants to be like her parents) and Ishigami cares too little for things that he disagrees with. I personally like the dynamic of two people completely self aware of the fact that they want to get along and be friends but are too convinced that they're too different for that to happen.

It needs to be more fleshed out for sure, which is why I don't think their actual romantic development will start until well after the Tsubame stuff is done, but I'm kind of invested in it, not as pessimistic as other people are anyway.

A year had passed, and the prince knew that the men has taken his money and fled, and they would never return with the jewel. He was angry, and rage at the coward of other men, declaring the he himself would go and fetch the jewel, despite the protests of his men, who believe the dragon would kill them all. Otomo paid them no heed, and ordered his servants to build and board a great boat.

A great storm blew up soon after the voyage began. Waves tossed the ship from side to side, the deck was drenched in rain, and lightning flashed and thunder roared its wrath across the sky

Otomo no Miyuki was brave enough to face the dragon, but not brave enough to face the storm, and he laid on his stomach in his cabin, horribly seasick. If the boat did not sink and lightning did not strike then they would surely die of seasickness. I feel like Miko's been a backburner character for most of her time. She was seeded pretty late in, but hasn't exactly had much focus. Most of her appearances are her walking in much too late to actually get involved in the plot going on. The equivalent to early Ishigami with his wanting to die gag. Miko barely interacts with the main cast, and only has significant developments with Ishigami alluded to. She was introduced a long, long time before she was ever going to be truly relevant, and no other character has received that treatment. Miko's arc, I feel, really starts with the bonfire.

You did realize that there's practically no way for everything to go the stereotypical romance route left, right? Sure, Miko could take over for Kaguya and help Ishigami study, but she'd be far from special for that. Ishigami is also currently trying to improve to gain the confidence to confess to Tsubame.

Miko won't stand out for those reasons. If anything, the main problem Ishigami still has left is that he still has no idea what he wants to do with his life and doesn't seem particularly interested in figuring it out. In short, the main thing that could make Miko special is if she helped Ishigami find or rekindle some interest or ambition.
